Definitely a good resource, I stumbled upon that about a year ago when I was messing with some aero ideas.

I have an undertray on my 911. It is attached to the bottom of custom boxed rockers on the sides, custom aluminum rails that run left to right in 4 different places under the car (3 different panel sections) and then directly to the under body tray where it is close to it.

It attaches with 1/4 turn fasteners and is made of aluminum honeycomb board.

My 911, so the history is told, did spend time in a windtunnel owned or used by Cesna.

FWIW, I found a tunnel in NC, 26K for a full day... fully instrumented, with operator, rolling road, full scale modeling of aiflow dynamics...

It isn't cheap, but would bring a wealth of information, not to mention new product developments... but would the 26K ever be recouped?

it is an all day event for 1 car...includes them setting up all kinds of sensors...

maybe when I win the powerball, but until then I'll just dream of building my own tunnel!

rolling road is clutch, a lot changes once the wheels start spinning!

Yup, then can run the RR and the airflow up to 180MPH... pretty sweet setup they got there...

there are others, and the prices vary, but this is apparently one of the best available!

whoa.
I'd rather go Mythbusters style and use a scale model 944 in a converted fishtank. Or even copy the Shelby guys that were building the Daytona coupe, tape pieces of yarn on different parts of the car, set up a camera and hit the highway.

Knowing very little about aerodynamics, I would think that a CFD simulation would provide much more bang for the buck.

Default aero testing/undertrays

You guys should log on, study, and/or jon ecomodders.com. Plenty of info there on measuring drag, drag reduction, aero mods, and undertrays. How-to info. BTW, a wind tunnel is not needed for reasonable drag measurement. Tuft testing using short pieces of yarn taped to the body works fine, for just a few cents cost.

Our cars should be getting much better fuel economy than they do. Udertrays made of Coroplast would be cheap, efficient, and easy.

I might be missing something but does the 944 even go fast enough to really exploit a wing? We may hit 120ish on the long straights but only for a few yards...seems to me that if it worked Porsche would have had something on the 924 Carrera GT?

Not sure why I am telling you this, but...

(for those who do not know, Brant and I are friends and race against each other in NA 944's)

Depending on the wing, of course, it can add downforce without adding much drag. The point of the wing is not to increase downforce while going down a straight. It is to increase slip resistance or grip in high speed corners.

Our cars can go just as fast (potentially) as any other car on the track if the right aerodynamics are used (including my 911). And,a 944 with or without a well put together aero package can go just as fast in the straights as each other.

Mid-Ohio as an example, the wing and related splitter would have a very positive impact on speed through turns 1, 7, 9, 10a, 10b, 11, and 13.

The wing and splitter actually hurt straight line speed. But, as you say, we spend much more time going through corners than we do going down the straights. And, for that matter, the faster we enter a straight, the faster we are at the end of the straight.

Default PORSCHE 944 IN MACH 3 WIND TUNNEL

Here is at least a link and picture of a 944 model in a small scale test:

http://www.efluids.com/efluids/galle...es/porsche.jsp

Not that it tells us much about our spoilers or other add ons...

Anyone has an update on any "real" 944 wind tunnel pictures?
