not the rubber boot.

if you pull off the actual shift **** you should see two small rubber square pieces on the shift lever, one where the bottom of the **** goes and one at the top of the lever. these hold the **** on the lever and keep it from rattling. i had a pair literally disintegrate maybe 2 weeks ago (the shift **** came off completely in my hand while shifting), got a new set and got them on and now its quiet and tight.

also, look down into the tunnel and see if the shift lever is loose on the black shifter rod. the pin from the lever will wear down and move around alot causing sloppy shifter action, and also the extra clearance between rod and pin will rattle.

Ok, thanks, I changed d gear gatier, and tht rubber seemed fine, couldn't get d shifter cap( gear layout on) of d ***. It only come on at 2000rpm, hanging about in 5 gear as this gear is d slowist pick up around tht rpm, I was more worryied tht d vibration was casued or a tell tell sign of some sort.

I get this too. I just shift a little higher in the rpms.
And I know my balance shafts aren't out of sync.

clamchaos my noise stops if the gear leaver is held tight, if left the noise is quite high picthed. 2000 rpm is about 40mph by 45mph or 2400 rpm the noise is gone.

how bad would a engine run if the belts were fitted incorrect?

If the balance shafts were off you would either feel vibration in a beat. Like... the vibration would be low then get worse, then go down again in a pattern.
If they were off completely it'll shake all the time and you would know it.
I don't think it's your belts.

Since you're pretty low in the power band at 2000rpm it makes things shake a little. Something in your shifter is probably loose.
Did you check what Spencer said? The shifter does have a rubber vibration damper on it.

Mine did the same thing as an early indicator of a bad CV joint. Vibration can come from so many sources...common ones are exhaust leak, cat conv heat shield, motor mounts, CV joints, tranny mounts, exhaust mounts, O2 sensor loose

Yeah I'm pretty sure the user manual has something about not dropping below 1500?? I can't remember exactly.

And the way you typed the 2nd half of your question, I don't understand it.

At 30mph I'll be in 4th unless I'm accelerating. I don't like to be in 5th until 45mph and I have a short 5th gear. I could imagine it being worse with a tall 5th.

Thanks, kind of highjacked this thread, over here there pushing the Eco driving, 30mph in 5th is below 1500rpm.

Power on 944S don't really come in till 4500 rpm. What's the best rev range 4 a healthy engine? I'm normaly in 5 th gear early unless I'm picking up speed fast. Then 5th can b as late as 100mph. I always double clucth if I drop down in to 2nd or 3rd, 2nd gear is a macth on d rev range, 20mph 2000rpm, 30mph 3000rpm e.c.t which makes double clucth easy in tht gear.
