Very Rough Idle
The idle on my 84 with 50k is really rough. so much so that the whole car shakes a bit.
bring the idle up to 1000 from 800 and it is smooth as silk.
any suggestions.

What rpm is it idling at now?
Have you checked for vacuum leaks?
VERY IMPORTANT: have you recently done anything to the motor? Rule of thumb: allways check the last thing you touched or the last PLACE you touched something.
Maybe you cracked a vacuum line.
If it runs fine above idle you can rule out cracked cap, dislocated rotor, or anything else ignition related. Is the throttlebody clean? Rule out all the obvious.
Good luck.

I realize that this is an old post but I have to disagree with the motor mount suggestion. If you motor mounts are bad raising the idle from 800 rpms to 1000 rpms should not show that much improvement. If you engine is shaking badly at idle and your mounts are bad, once rpm reaching ~1500 it should smooth out. A 200 rpm increase shouldn't really do much for smoothness if it in fact the motor mounts. I have a similar problem with idle with my S2 and it is becoming progressively worse. I am thinking TPS. I am going to test it this weekend for proper reading and adjustment.
Good luck,
Max
