Blue Book $ for 944S
Any ideas where I can get some more price comps? Someone rear ended the 944S in the rain yesterday and I'm having trouble finding comp prices for insurance. The repair estimate is $4400 for repairs using new parts and $2200 if I provide bumper, end caps, shocks. My son would like to keep the car and fixing it himself with parts we pick up. KBB only goes back to 1990 and sites like ebay, autotrader, cars.com have very few cars. I'm thinking it's worth about $4K to $4.5K. It might all end up a moot point anyway since the car he was by wasn't listed on the guys parents insurance and my son has the most basic insurance and wouldn't be covered my an uninsured motorist.
Between that and the 35' tree that fell on my house yesterday we are in insurance claim Hell at the moment.
Thanks

Thanks, I've never heard of NADA. Looks like they tend to run pretty high which is fine but I sold my very nice 951 for less than the 944S 'average' price. If the insurance company accepts even low NADA book it might not get salvaged.

Minimal damage but I can't really tell yet until they cut it off the roof of the garage. It doesn't seem to be leaking yet. There's a 35' section of gutter, some torn shingles, and some fascia board that will need replacement at the very minimum. We were very lucky it was only about 10 feet away from the house so it didn't build up a lot of momentum in the fall or topple over the driveway where the 944S and my truck were parked.

<edit: /always the salesman/ Steve, convert the rear to a 968 - I know a guy who has all the stuff you need . . . .>

Yeah Matt it feels that way sometimes. I think my son is thinking 'convert the whole car to a Tacoma pickup' at the moment if the $$$ work out. Actually the damage to the rear is minimal only like I said (bumper, end caps, bumper shock(s), and maybe have a shop pop the small compression buckle in front the the LR wheel well. We still haven't got the results from the 'coverage investigation' on the other guy. I do know I won't fall for that old curse of the 944 and end up with a repaired $7K car worth $4K max.

When I got rear ended in my 87 944S, Mine was going to be totaled. They tried to give me 1200 and the car w a salvage title. I argued with them and managed to get 3k and a clean title. They did not give the car very much value, even though its a somewhat rare vehicle. I had to fax them all of my reciepts for parts that I purchased, that seemed to do the trick. My estimate was 3673 in repairs. That was to replace the bumper, the bumper pad, the bumper shock, and side plastic panel for the bumper, then paint and labor.
IMO all that needed replaced was just the bumper pad and the side panel. I went out and got a used bumper for $50 and called it a day. Still haven't put it on yet though. Damage was minimal compared to the car that hit me.It in no way interfered with driving. Here are the pics:

How bad was your damage? Love the color of the car btw.

Ouch! Sorry to hear about the bad news....
+1 on gathering up all recent receipts. When I went through insurance settlement on my first 968, they made me whole on all recent repairs.

He ended up settling for $2K because the other guys insurance would not cover new parts due to the age. Thanks to Joe for the end caps and shocks. I'm going to borrow a friends Porta-Power for the buckle but it's really not that bad anyway.
