Post 88 Turbo S

Quick question that may make me look like a fool (not like I don't already), but wasn't the 88 Turbo S only available in the Silver Rose Metallic? I know in 89 they opened it up for sure, but I thought 88 was only the Silver Rose with the Burgandy Plaid interior...
If this is true, how can so many people get away with advertising their 88 Turbo (in a variety of colors such as Guards, Blue etc, all claiming original paint) as an 88 Turbo S? Looking at AutoTrader, I saw 4 or 5 88 Turbos claiming to be Turbo S'....

Am I missing something?

The 88 Turbo-S did come in more colors than just the Silver Rose.

Statistics can be found online somewhere, do a google for the "Turbo S Registry" or some such thing.

Apparently, Porsche ended up building less than 1000 of the silver rose cars (about 750 I think) and ended up building several hundred of different colors with standard interiors....

Thanks for clearing that up guys, I was beginning to think there were a lot of scam artists out there.
So, in theory then, it is entirely possible to find a Guards/Linen Turbo S?

I think I may have my next purchase nailed down...(bone Stock low mile Guards/Linen 951 S)

Now I just have to find one...

Thanks!

Good luck...I am sure they are ultra-rare. You may be better off just getting an '89.....

89's are cool

Only problem is most of them have a skinny 16mm rear sway instead of the 18mm rear sway found on early 89 turbo's and 88 turbo S's. After a certain VIN # they changed it over.

I'm not a huge e-bay enthusiast, but I saw a couple nice later model turbos on there last night. I know for sure that there was an '89 951 with low miles (relatively). It stuck out because that's what I have, but this one had a light tan leather instead of blk like mine.

It look'd like a nice car.

Ollie- that is an interesting color combo...

The total amount of '88 Turbo S's was supposed to be 1000 world wide, and 715 TOTAL were supposed to have come to the US w/somwhere around 300 being the original silver rose metallic- I'm not positive on this, but there really don't seem to be that many silver rose metallics around, so I do believe it. Mine is a zermatt silver/black and I DO have the original window sticker...

Gaurds w/linen sounds pretty cool- I like the linen interior (my favorite actually), although many people don't...

Well, as far as the #'s go, that's just what I've read- I HAVE found similar info in several places though, and it makes sense to me, as I have only seen a couple of the original Turbo S's for sale- I've NEVER seen one in person- lot's of people didn't like the interior- it's kind of grown on me...

The zermatt silver is pretty much a metallic silver I guess- it looks a lot like the newer Boxster silver to me- arctic silver I believe(?). I can get the paint code off the car if you're interested- it's not a problem. I've had mine parked next to the standard grey's, and can see a MAJOR dif there, although the most recent cop that I had the displeasure to speed past wrote "grey" on the ticket Anyway, there are lot's of pics of the color around- there is a little icon in cyberspace that I see used a LOT for the 944 webring and such- I MAY have a pic of a real one too- if so, I'll try to send you and e-mail here in a little bit. The color is interesting to me- when I first got a pic of the car from the PO, it looked almost white- in certain lights it can look that way, and can look like a real metallic silver, or, almost a gold color, much like the silver rose metallic- although, again, I've never seen on in person. I like it though- I've had people ask me when I got my car repainted, or the new 951, and SWEAR that I'm messing w/them when I reply that it's the SAME car and the SAME color/exact paint

<img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />

BTW- I've got a few pics of some interesting colors (interesting to me anyway)- like a shade of red that I've only seen once, blue, a lilac type color, etc- some of them I would love to have, and others, I like and admire, yet wouldn't really want for myself- I've picked many of the up off this list, actually. If interested, send me an e-mail and I'll send you some pics of them...

Paul,

<img src="graemlins/bigok.gif" border="0" alt="[thumbsup]" /> Here's your car:

<a href="http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1850112453" target="_blank">http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1850112453</a>

Guards red over linen 944 Turbo S.

$15,500 which is maybe a litte high, but a) they are rare, b) they are without a doubt the BEST of the 944 line available in US.

Here's a trivial point sure to launch some heated debates:

According to my literature, there is no such thing as a 944 Turbo S with a Linen interior!

Here's why: The 1988 "colors and interior trim" book lists the only off white interior as "Light Grey". It's a different shade than the linen of 89. I've heard it called "bone" and "camel" but the book just calls it light grey. Since the 89's weren't officially Turbo S's, just 944 Turbos, wouldn't that make my statement correct, barring special orders?

Fire when ready.. <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />

(PS&gt;&gt; I think 15.5K is a fair price for a well maintained 89 Turbo with 67K)

Dan P,

I'm glad you chose to be Apollo and not me. Light Grey is as "linen" and you get. Light grey is a poor descriptor for this color. I have an '88 Turbo S in black and with the light grey interior. I suppose I'd call it light beige maybe. It's very tough to see grey in it. I was initially calling it linen as it is quite light in color.

Paul,

FYI, I paid $15700 for mine 1/2001. I'd say it's in the top 5-10% of all examples to be found. E-mail me if you'd like more specifics.

Dan P- I know exactly what you mean- I don't understand it either- I have seen several w/a white interior, and have always referred to them as linen, but I can't honestly say I've ever seen an '88 (either turbo or turbo S) in linen- I have seen several other years w/it though, and it's definately different from the light grey and light beige samples I've been sent- I had considered (at one time) trying to convert my interior to linen- anyway, I've wondered about this for awhile, and have pretty much given up on ever making sense of it...
