Question Racing Inerior question

Does anyone have any ideas for a coating i can use for the floor since i gutted my 951 for race setup. I was thinking about a bed liner used for truck beds, but im worried about weight i guess. Is there any type of coating used for my application? Cheers

Rhino liner if you're going that route.

I'm going the bed liner route myself. It doesn't weigh much, especially if using the rattle can. The rattle can is easier to apply and seems to look prettier than the roll on stuff in my experience. I saw another racer that was bedlined on here too, and it looked pretty sexy.

i would recommend the rollon. the rattlecan stuff doesn't truely bond with the metal. it'd be ok for the rear seat and the trunk area, but the footwell area won't stand the abuse. i tried the spray on stuff and even after hardening, i could still scrap it off with my fingernails.

I did that too and I agree. I am currently removing it.

I will use a self etch primer from Wurth and then I will paint it with a Wurth rattle can and then I'll put an engine clear coat on it.

As for the footwell, I will screw on a little painted piece of wood to have a flat floor and to keep the floor in good shape.

That route was taken by a friend of mine and it is still good looking after 2 years of "abuse"...

I've heard concerns that the truck bedliner stuff will off-gas in the event of a fire, which may not be a good idea if you end up shiny side down on the track.

There are two other products that I've heard great things about. One is call "Lizard Skin", and Sherwin Williams has a spray on product that is very similar, and color-tintable. I don't know the name of it, but if you can find a local auto paint shop that uses Sherwin products, I'm sure they could look it up for you. I know mvallee has applied the Lizard Skin product in his project: http://www.924board.org/viewtopic.php?t=29920

My floor has been fine in 9 years of track use just with the original paint. I do have a shiny spot under the gas pedal, but nothing more. I could pain over it in 5 minutes if I needed to.

If it rains I have more concerns about keeping my feet try to ensure optimum pedal grip rathar than any concerns with the floor.

I primed and then painted mine with Smoke Grey Rustoleum. If I did it again, I would add a slight bit of sand to the paint for just a bit of gritty adhesion.

i was thinking if i ever deleted my carpet/insulation i would spray the inside w/ automotive paint, then mount a floor mat on the floor w/ pins.

I think im going to go the line-x or rhino liner rout. I guess scuffing is neccesary never thought about that part, thats going to be very strenuous. good point about the fire factor witht hat stuff, anyone know if it will clash with any SCCA or PCA rules? thanks
