They have been trying to make it slower. By taking them off the slicks and the engine restrictions...but they're back down to the times they used to run now. Changing the tracks really is the only way to slow them down...

F1 is awesome.

Most tracks don't lend themselves to passing. Maybe instead of qualifying they set the field up by points. But invert it. Like the person with the most championship points start at the tail of the field. Then we would see some passing.

I imagine that we would have some ticked off drivers and teams.

I wonder how much money Ferrari spends per year to keep their dominance of the series.

If you guys like the idea I will draft a letter to Berny Ecclestone tonight just let me know.

Personally I love watching Reubens Barichello...
Watching him come from DEAD LAST starting after a stall on the grid before the roll-off to finish 2nd in the race, now that is amazing! Happened twice this year I beleive!
Michael can stay in front just fine, but Reubens...Reubens can PASS!!!

Hey I like that inverted starting-grid idea! Then we can do away with qualifying altogether and they can give us TWO races on a weekend!

Without question, F-1 is where the worlds greatest race car drivers earn their paycheck. Michael Schumacher is the highest paid "athlete" in the world -- by a long shot.

I know those NASCAR briars sitting on top of their 1978 Winnebagos with the mullet and 40oz think Rusty and Dusty and Kyle and Bobby and Buddy and Billy are the greatest thing since sliced bread, but thats the little leagues compared to F-1. Even CART and IRL is way behind F-1.

No better example than Nigel Mansell coming over here from F-1 and in his first year he gobbles up the CART Championship like its old hat. Then Michael Andretti tries to do the opposite and eventually gives up on the F-1 circuit b/c he wasnt cutting the mustard. Granted, some CART guys have transitioned to F-1 okay such as Villanueve and Montoya etc, but its few and far between.

I dont think you'll ever see another guy like Mario Andretti who will excel in all of them. In his den hes got a Daytona 500 in stock cars, Indy 500 in Champ cars, and F-1 title too, nevermind the Le Mans stuff. Not that I think he was the greatest, but I do think he could drive a skateboard fast if he was asked to.

And besides, Champ drivers are wussies because when it sprinkles, they call off the race.

Only interesting comment defying that statement was a quote I heard from Schumacher not too long ago about racing at Indy. He liked the race, but when asked about ever racing in the Indy 500 there as well, he said probably never because he thought it was too dangerous. I guess he doesnt want to be the next Scott Brayton.

All the roundy roundy guys get my knod for having big ***** or being stupid one. I haven't decided.

But it is the guys who turn left and right that really impress me. And even more impressive are the guys that go flat out down country trails half sideways having only driven the route once before that really impress me.

Oh and those guys that race at the Isle of Man they are just plane nuts.

I was hoping Cart would show F1 how to run an exciting race in Montreal, but was disappointed in the number of passes and lack of real competition between drivers. And the number of yellows combined with four pit stops, made it almost impossible to build a bit of tension.

At one point, a car that packed it in didn't even try to make it off the pavement. That would never happen in F1.

For me the best part was when Paul rammed someone and started the chain reaction in corner one. That's by far the best place to sit these days.

I'll second that !! Absolutely crazy. You gotta love those extended in-car camera shots from Nascarvision, er uh.. Nascarchannel.. the channel formerly known as Speedvision! I sent them a flaming email hoping they would change their minds and just leave well enough alone, but it didnt seem to work.

Cool

Okay it all in good fun to compare one group of cars to another but aren't we talking apples and oranges (F1 Vs Cart)
both series have completely different sets of rules/specifications right?
And F1 has a much bigger budget than Cart right?
I like both, so it's a win/win for me!

I like both too..I usually keep up with F1 a lot better just because they're always aired at the same times on the weekends. Whereas sometimes CART will be in the middle of the week or something.

>250 million dollars

Well their sponsors foot a large part of it.

I only appreciated the passion F1 inspires when I saw the cars firsthand - the noise they make is unbelievable - a two ton mosquito breaking the sound barrier?! Not much but drag cars and AMAF's 924 can out accelerate them.

The Isle of man race is the most insain stuff I have ever seen... to pull that kind of speed in city streets on a bike is "big Ball" insain

There is no room for error 0, silch, Nada...

Two places I have to visit in my life: Isle of Mann and Burning Man. I have several tapes of Joey Dunlop running the course with an on-bike camara, that are unbelievable. Every year,I hear, several spectators are killed at the Isle of Mann running the course on their own. Now that's an enthusiast!

Ian, sorry to burst your bubble. F1 is the best technical exercise in the world. Racing, it ain't. Let's see, Ferrari spends over $300 million a year. Top CART budget would surprise me at 10% of that. Ten times the budget, for lap times roughly 10% less. You do the math.

Actually, both races a Montreal were comparable. Almost no passing!

Don't be a F1 snob. I've been following F1 since the early seventies, seen Gilles at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, named my first son after Ronnie Peterson. But today's cars, with automatic gearboxes, traction control, launch control etc etc leave drivers out of the mix. Don't you think half the field would be F1 champs if they were in the red car?

Good racing is racing, oval, street, or road course. An unbiased mind would say the Saturday night race at Bristol was the event of the weekend. I put european rallying up there as well, though it's not wheel to wheel. If anyone thinks oval track drivers are nuts, how about the guys who could go off and not land for half a minute?
