Well,
While heading to work in the 85, I played around with a nice looking (well... you know - as nice looking as they get) 87ish 1'st generation 300zx from a roll to about 50 mph. It wasn't a Turbo (no hood duct- did any 1st gen Turbo Z's not have this duct?) and I didn't hear anything remotely close to spooling.
The 944 tore him a new one in 2nd gear (as high as I went.) We were side by side at 10 mph or so when he hit it and of course I managed to make a sloppy shift into second
Once I was in gear though, I just shot by him, hit the speed limit and then got off the throttle. It wasn't even a contest - truthfully this kind of surprised me.
It's nice to know that when it's up against cars from the same period, even the NA's are pretty tough little combatants
Micah
BTW, the guy and I exchanged waves and a "thumbs up" when we parted further down the road. It was also nice that when I hit the speed limit and stopped, he hit it and stopped as well, rather than flying by me at 80 with his flashers on as I expected.
