Odd Tapping can only be heard from inside the car
I have had a tapping that sounds somewhat like a dying lifter that can only be heard from idle to about 1,300 rpm. It has gotten a bit louder recently, but I can only hear it inside the car. If I pop the hood, can't hear anything but injector tick, I can crawl arond all around the car and still not hear it, only inside the cabin with the windows shut. For a time, I thought it was my exhaust/something making contact with something else due to my bad motor mounts, but I replaced them (thanks Van 
) and the problem persists. Needless to say, it's worrying me now that I can't pin point it.
Has anyone else had a tapping that could only be heard inside and what did it end up being?
FWIW: I had the cam tower off a few thousand miles ago to replace a dead lifter, the rest seemed fine (firm buttons, clean, soaked in ATF, etc) Oil pressure is normal and unchanged from what it has always been.
