Angry My 951 is dead - rear ended at a stop light

I think my 951 just got totalled today...

This is the closest place I can think of to a Porsche widower's support group. I just need someone who understands my pain... hehe.

Sitting at a stop light, minding my own business when I heard that dreaded "screeeeeeeeeeech" I looked in my rear view mirror in horror and all I could see was the Saturn behind me at a complete stop. So for about a split second I thought, "Whew, I'm glad it's not the car behind me going into a skid."

Then "WHAM WHAM WHAM!"

I got the wind knocked out of me, the saturn behind me is suddenly about 6 feet closer than he was before and the bumper of the blazer that was sitting in front of me is now sitting on my hood.

Some guy in a land yacht '76 Cadillac just wasn't paying attention and slammed into the Saturn, the Saturn slammed into me, and then I slammed into (well more like underneath) the blazer in front of me.

The back is crushed, the front is crushed the throttle doesn't work, the engine barely idles, and it looks like the whole car is buckled where the back seats are. Sucks.

Well at least is was before I got around to spending a bunch of money on the car. And at least I'm not dead, hehe. Guess things could be worse. The cops said that it was the 3rd 944 that's been totalled this week within about a 3 mile area.

Gonna make the claim to the insurance tomorrow... Now I have to decide if I should try to buy another 951, maybe save up for an 89 Turbo S or maybe just wait a few years and get a 911 or 993. Sigh.

Here's what is used to look like

Since the insurance company doesn't know the difference between a turbo and an n/a and an S - you go find the BEST example of a 951 you can, and get the insurance company to replace yours with it! It's won't be easy, you'll have to fight tooth and nail, but if you can convince them that the market value is WAY higher than the kelly blue blook value, you might be able to get a good replacement.

Sorry man, that is just horrible. I remember when I was in high school I had a '97 Mazda B2300. It was a sharp little truck but for some reason whenever I waxed it someone felt the need to plow into it...

Once this really nice lady in a older Honda Civic smashed into me. I literally destroyed here car, the only damage to mine was the chrome on my bumper

The next time I got smashed by this old POS Ford F-350 CrewCab dually truck. This time I got some paint too!

After that everytime I stopped at a stoplight I was staring into my rearview mirror waiting to get hit.

Oh man, that sucks! Having been rear-ended too, I know that "this can't be happening" -feeling... mine wasn't nearly as bad as your experience though.

Glad you're OK, the Porsche headrests really do a great job in keeping ones neck safe..

NADA guide and PCA valuations are both going to be higher than blue book, i dont know if the insurance company cares about either though.

I just got my car back from the shop. I was rear ended December 13, 2002. It took them 3 months to replace the rear bumber and some tailights. I still don't have my rear valence. They said it would take another month. Sorry about your car man. Let me know if you by the totalled wreck, I'm always looking for parts.

I'll tell you what, don't settle for totaled just yet. I got rear ended a little over a year ago (the 16 year old who did it didn't even hit the brakes, so I had no screech of a warning). They totaled the car (the rear end was pushed into the rear wheel wells). A guy bought it off of me, fixed it up, and now it is the best looking 951 around here (even nicer than my current T-S). If you really had a beautiful car, see what you'll get out of it minus a buy back, talk to some body shops, it may be salvageable. I get a tear in my eyes everytime I see my old one on the road now.

Just look around for some other VERY NICE 951's, like the best of the best and then show the price those are going for (~$12-$15k) and then show them how the pictures on your website (don't let them see what you paid) show a car of almost the same quality. You could easily gather 10 - 20 or so examples and maybe they will believe you what it's worth.

Maybe you could even get a few rennlisters to take some pictures of top-notch 951's @ Hershey (if you insurance company waits that long).

Thanks for the support guys! I'll try to take some pictures of the poor thing sitting in my driveway today. That will really start to jerk some tears. I'll check back in later on.
