My 951 is dead - rear ended at a stop light
#17
Happened to me in November - it SUCKS. But insurance companies aren't all evil. My car was within a few hundred of being totaled - the other guy's insurance (Progressive) was great - sent it to the best body shop in KC without batting an eye, and my car got repaired beautifully.
Here's hoping things work out to your satisfaction.

Hey? When do I get to see your car again? We need to do another KC maintenance party.
Not trying to hijack the thread here... I, too, am sorry for your loss.

Here are the pictures I promised. You can see where the body is creased between the door and the rear wheels on both sides of the car. After looking at it today I'm not so sure if they'll have to total it after all, but we'll see.
I just had the rear right tail light and the part of the rear panel where the "porsche" sticker is fixed last month. A mechanic at sears accidently backed a suburban into it while I was getting the wheels aligned there. That repair cost them $1000, so I'm scared to think about how much this will cost. The front is mushed, but after looking at it today I'm not sure how bad it really is. The headlights got hit but I think the intercooler might still be okay.
The car runs rough and the throtle doesn't work but I'm not sure if it's just because the pipe is loose between the intercooler and the intake or if something happened to the distributor. The weight of the blazer sitting on my hood was mostly all where my little yellow arrows are pointing, directly on the distributor and the fuel rail.
Maybe it won't be a complete loss, but the creases in the sides of the car between the doors and the rear wheels scare me.
Somehow, it looks much worse in person.

Geez you ok, I can feel the jolt from here, sorry for your loss. I got back ended by a cop who wasn't paying attention, I looked in the mirror and saw a big white car coming and not stopping. What a jolt. Not my 944 though, thank heavens

If you are a PCA member, get a copy of the PCA valuation for you car. They can mail it pretty quick. I had an 89 S2 that ended up with an old lady in a Ford Focus for a hood ornament (she went left coming at me without looking..... I guess Ford Focuses own the road now... used to be only Cadillacs....) The insurance company kept coming up with crappy valuations, but the PCA paperwork definitely helped. Good Luck, and don't accept the first few offers they come up with.........

I not only feel your pain, I'm living it right now. My turbo G20 was totaled 4 weeks ago by someone exiting the freeway and just had to cross two lanes of traffic to get into that gas station I was driving by. I too was involved with a Saturn, but I took the poor bastard out when I got it.
I just got my car back from the insurance company yesterday (the engine package with all the modifications is worth 2x what I got for the total!).
In an ironic twist of fate, the day after the accident a couple of other Houston Rennlisters and I drove out to Beaumont to help another Rennlister do a belt job. While making a supplies run I actually saw the damned Exploder that hit me!
When the insurance called at the belt party and I gave them the address, it turns out it was literally right around the corner from where we were at. There was a bried discussion about a lawn job or something.
In my case, it's all ended well. I am now driving a 2000 328i with all the options including the sport package. I always dreamed of owning a Porsche and a BMW and now I own both in a relatively short period of time. Anyone want to run into my Sentra?

I'm just glad you didn't get hurt pal. Sorry for the loss and the red tape and paper work to follow. I love 951's but a 993 is nice too. So little life, so many porsches,(and women) . Hope it all works out to your satisfaction.
