Mods to Increase N/A power???
I have an 87 N/A I want to increase the HP without sacrificing reliablity (OK this is sort of an oxy-moron but I don't want the headaches of a turbo). This car will be driven daily and used at 3-4 open track events a year.
So far I have a K&N air filter, rodded out cat and a chip. I am considering the following:
Free flow muffler
2 1/2" exhaust, headers back
multi-spark ignition w/ coil
bored out TB
throttle response cam ????
Are there any other suggestions?
Of these, from which can I expect the most improvement?
Most P-people use MSD-6A's, there are at least four mfg's of these boxes, are any of the others better?

the throttle responnse cam doesnt actually ad power, but it makes the car feel much nicer.
the only thing thats going to give you power in a na would be a turbo or a supercharger ($$$$$) or atleast thats how it seems to me.

You will see an increase in power with the mods that you mention in your post, however, you still won't be on par with our turbo brethren. If you really want power, supercharge it.
The stuff you are talking will give you a nice seat of the pants increase, however for the $1000 dollars you spend you _might_ get 15-20 horses out of it. And that is very optimistic.

Short of the $$$ supercharger, there's just not much 'cheap' horsepower for an na; put the car on a serious diet if you wnat more go-fast. Dump the rear seat, spare tire, jack, & tools (gotta cell phone?), and all the extra junk you normally carry.

Hey ram_one, you have a dyno-chart of your car with all those modes? I'd be interested in seeing a before & after comparison. <img src="graemlins/xyxwave.gif" border="0" alt="[bigbye]" /> <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />

Sad to say I do not have a before. But I guess there are ideas for stock numbers are ou tin abundance.
Anyhow, I hope to have an after number within a few weeks if Adrial can pull off another NE dyno day.
I'll post the results.

I might be able to help you out on this :-)
210 at the tires for less than chips, MAF kit, K&N conversion, MSD ignition etc etc.
11.5:1 compression 3.1 liter NA motor. One year warranty.
YOu can spends thousands over the years, or just by the motor once and get the power now. If you don't like the motor, send it back, your money will be refunded.
Short sweet and to the point :-)
Take Care.

That's my suggestion as well! If you are ready for it: maybe it's time to rework the suspension: coil overs, springs, progressive shocks, thicker sways: these may not get you the ummph you need on the straights, but you can more than make up for it in the corners!

John Anderson,
All right, I'll bite. Send me an e-mail on the details of this engine.
Couple of questions: Will it work with my MAF? Can you use my head (just done at Huntley) and cam (from Jon Milledge) or is a replacement necessary?
