Post fuel starving

A little help with my early 85 944. Just got rid of the cat and now it seems to be starving for fuel. I can't accelerate without feathering the throttle. I unhooked the o2 sensor and it helped a little. What needs to be done to correct this problem? Could i have a fuel regulator going bad?
Do i need to make some adjustments in the management system? Need help fast, got an autocross coming up. THANKS <img src="graemlins/jumper.gif" border="0" alt="[jumper]" />
