Post M030 question

Please help the undereducated...

Can someone give me an idea of what's included in the M030 option on 968's. I know it's a performance package but not sure of all that's there. Also - can the items be added later as a retrofit?

Thinking of buying a 968 - but doesn't have the M030 option.

Thanks,

Brian

The M030 option on the 968 is very similar to that offered with the '88 944 Turbo S or '89 Turbo. It includes both brake and suspension upgrades. To actually retrofit the complete package costs something in the neighborhood of $5,000 or more.

You get:

- "928 S4" size front calipers with "drilled" rotors.
- "Drilled" rear rotors.
- Different front and rear brake pads.
- Different front brake lines.
- Different front hubs and spindles ($$$).
- Front externally adjustable Koni struts with height adjustment and smaller diameter springs.
- Rear Koni shocks with special barrel-shaped coilover helper springs and re-indexed torsion bars.
- 30 mm tubular front sway bar (stock is 26.8).
- 19 mm, 3-way adjustable rear sway bar (stock is 16, non adjustable).
- Misc. bushings, etc.

Virtually all the M030 cars come with a "limited slip" Torsen differential and 7.5 and 9.0x17 5-spoke wheels (early M030 cars have the "Cup 1" C2 design and later cars have the "Cup 2" 993 design). Tires are 225/45 and 255/40-17. I think they also all got the painted rear wing, but I'm not sure if these are technically part of the M030 package.

If you can find an M030 car in great condition, buy it. It's a great car and well worth the extra money over a standard 968 if you aren't planning to upgrade a lot of the components to something more exotic.

Well, my car's not a 968...but I have option code 030 and 220...so unless they changed it in the 90's (which I doubt), that 968 does not have LSD.

Can you check the transmission code and see if it's a G4400 200XXXX. The '2' indicates M220 option. If it's a '1' then no LSD.

But... for the 968 there's also option M219, which is just listed as 'differential.' Could this be the Torsen or are they still listed as M220? Anyone know?

Tom,

Where to look for Trans code? I just checked my 94 968 options sticker. Well on Trans code it says G4400-14. But I have on option code 220 in this car and i know this one has LSD. Any other place to look?
