Post Turning the instruments in the cluster?

Just got this idea after seeing some 911's modified this way...

Does somebody know if it's easy (or even possible?) to rotate, let's say the tach, ~120 degrees to the left so I'd have the 5k rpm right on top?

Few reasons for this;
1) my steering wheel is a bit smaller than the stock one, so it effectively blocks the engine temp display out of my sight - turning that gauge ~45 degrees counterclockwise would allow me to actually see it without having to peek around the steering wheel.
2) tach with the powerband right on top is just plain racy, in my opinion

Of course, it'd look a bit weird... but hey, I'm the one who's looking in there!

Deepiece - assuming you still have it apart, would you measure the diameter of that Tach please - Thanks!

Very Cool! Thanks!

Looks like the Autometer 3.75" tach would fit right in there <img src="graemlins/jumper.gif" border="0" alt="[jumper]" />

how deep is it?

don't forget there is a flexible circuit board on the back of that plastic housing...

but I will bet this is for your red SCCA car... witch is already highly modified...and with your skills you'll get it to work.

Looks like about 3" deep - will have to check mine out before committing to it.

Sami,
this is easy on 911 models since all of the gauges are separate units unlike 944 gauges which are built in one cluster.

For the record, it's not too difficult with the old gauges, once you have them out. Just break off the alignment tab and stick the sucker in sideways.
