Post Freon removal cost?

Just a quick Q for those in the Tri-State area (pref NJ)... How much should one pay for the removal of freon from one's A/C system. I prefer to do it by the book instead of opening 'er up myself and making that hole in the sky a little bigger <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />

Thanks,
Andy

Another shameless bump...

OK, I'll broaden it a little... If anyone has had their AC removed, what is the cost of Freon disposal?

In NJ most shops charge 30 to 50 US Dollars for Hazerdous waste disposal.

Thanks a lot... Saves me from paying a $100 CDN A/C excise tax when I (finally) import my car into Canada, which I have to pay even if the system is broken. The car is in NJ and A/C system is dead...

I had a A/C replaced, the costs were;

-$50 to evacuate and recharge (machine charge)
-$138 for labor to R&R A/C
-$60 for R12 freon

So, if you just want it evacuated, around $100. They don't dispose of the freon, they store it in a special container and then sell it. It is reclaimed and sold for $50/lb.

It shouldn't be more than 1 hour labor, since they resell it.
