Nib5- agreed- unfortunately, I am not at a point in my life when I can afford to keep one of these "classics" on the road- of course, I can't afford to sell it either. Anyway, if DOES have it's good points, otherwise I wouldn't have bought it to begin with as everyone told me I was crazy for even considering it- actually, that may have even persuaded me more...

DM- I've heard both sides of the coin- that the S2 is harder to keep going and that it's easier- I think you should budget for at least the same- remember, it doesn't have the turbo, but instead has a larger block (read- stuffed in more tightly) w/twice the valves, etc... An E36M3 huh? I really like those cars- too bad you can't get just little more power out of them a little more easily- AA turbo? Pricey for my blood. The M3 is a really nice overall package though- I just don't like the interior nearly as much w/the orange illumination and tilted console. I DO love the cars ability to transition b/t smooth and rough roads and it's nice, smooth, quiet nature- I think they did a really good job w/the susp- multi-link, etc...

I read through this and started reflecting back on why I keep putting up with expensive parts, repairs and not a very well-designed electrical system.

And here's how I convince myself:

- it's SOLID ...
- accelerates like a maniac STARTING at 100
- Recaros better than any seat in my home
- it's Unique
- galvanized body doesn't rust as fast as my prelude, or bend when I touch it
- Built for the autobahn ... try the civic or mustang at 200 and see where you feel safer
- Able to not only carry golf clubs, but my entire mountain bike INSIDE the car

- First time we test drove it (when it was already 13 years old and had 250k on it, my wife said ... "We must have this car (from the passenger seat"

Like anything really good, money is usually involved

Granted, my rusting 86 prelude with close to 300k still sits in my driveway and can start on any given day on the first turnover, even after a year and our accord is super-reliable .... but the 951 is the car of choice for any road trip

... Still more unique than the boxster .. anyone can go out and buy a new porsche (given enough money), but it takes something extra to drive and take care of a an old classic. <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />
