It is from the same company that make teh wheel for Porsche but the only difference is that it is made from 3
piece leather and not from a one piece continuous leather

in person, the AJ wheel looks like crap. the 968 wheel looks much nicer...

I have to disagree. I have the AJ wheel, and other than the 3pc vs. the 1pc leather construction, it is "first rate". Maybe you looked at a bad example, but mine looks even better than the photos represent.

</strong><hr></blockquote>The AJ and the genuine Porsche 968 CS wheel are both made by the same factory in Italy, but obviously to different specs. Since it is doubtful this factory makes 3 styles of the same wheel, one for AJ, one for Porsche, and a different one, I'd guess that the wheels you can get with the multipiece leather are the same as sold by AJ. The only difference would be the center horn pad if you intend to sell them with the genuine Porsche horn pad with embossed crest.

IMO the genuine Porsche wheel (I have one) is much nicer... but it's nearly twice the money too.

I just got my 968 CS wheel from Sunset Imports for $385 delivered. The wheel is very nice, but the offset hub is slightly annoying. Still, I suppose it would be even more annoying if I couldn't read the tachometer, which would happen without the raised hub.

 

I also have the AJ wheel and it is first rate construction. I agree that the one piece is nicer, but for the price difference the AJ wheel is a great alternative.

Is the adaptor required to bolt the wheel on the column or does it function solely as an offset spacer. Is there a Porsche part number for the adaptor? My Porsche dealer only shows only the part number for the 968 CS wheel.

My 84' 944 has a 14" aftermarket wheel with no offset. The low sweep tach reduces the visibility problem.

I have been fumbling with the 930 S and 968 CS steering wheel for weeks and not sure which to get.

Do you have a web address from the company you got it from? Phone number. etc.?

The other question I have is with the HUB. What exactly does it do? Raise the steering wheel? Do you need it to mount the steering wheel? Does it make the steering feel different? And is it a big deal if its not needed to mount the steering wheel not to use it?

The hub converts the steering shaft spline into a 3 bolt steering wheel mount, moves the wheel a couple inches from the steering shaft, and raises the wheel about 1/4". The hub comes with the steering wheel. The part number is 968-347-084-00-8YR. Everything you need is included. Assuming you have a non-airbag car like my '86 951, installation should be very easy. Basically, straighten wheel, pull horn pad off old wheel, unhook horn wire, unscrew 24mm nut, remove wheel while ensuring steering wheel is straight. Installation of the 968cs wheel is basically reverse, except you need to first remove the horn pad and the horn spring (just a couple of screws).

I absolutely love the wheel, and the offset is only really noticeable if I try to notice it. When I ordered the wheel two months ago, they told me that there were none available in Porsche stock in the US or in Germany and I would have to wait for them to be produced. I don't know what the inventory situation looks like right now.
