after 3 days with my new s2 cab have list need help
So after a long weekend and my first 300 miles with my 91 s2 cab I have a nice little list of things to work on over the winter.
Any help / links to products or fixes are much appreciated
All in all the car runs nicely. Pulls well drive straight and tracks nicely on the highway. Handles and stops well and will look fantastic after a few touch ups and polishing. But...
1-The dash lights are very dim. Was driving this evening and could hardly see the speedo and tach. Any links that describe how to take apart the dash to change/upgrade the light.
2-Rear speakers. The ones installed buzz like crazy they are either blown or just terrible. What Size/product fits in the standard holes.
3-Driver door had to be adjusted. Closing it is tricky. Is this a common issues?
4-Cruse control doesn't work. Not sure I will ever use it but would be nice if it worked.
5-Fog lights don't work
6-Windshield washer doesn't work. Wipers are fine but washer does nothing.
7-Indicator on the dash for the brights does not work. This evening I drove for at least an hour with my brights on before I realized.
I haven't spent any time diagnosing anything yet I am hoping that some of the stuff that is not working will be simple fixes like fuses or disconnected wires.
Thanks!

3)Check the hinges, they might be loose or shifted.
4)Controller is a common failure, http://www.944online.com/cgi-bin/ASI...lectrical-9442
5) relay or switch wiring, or maybe check the bulbs they are common parts available from any parts store!
6) either the pump, the switch, or plugged line junctions (also available from 944 online, paragon products, and pelican parts. disconnect the line from the pump, and try it, if no pump, check for power at the pump, if no power look to the switch or the fuse, if it squirts from the pump the junctions are plugged and need to be replaced.... easy fix
7)while doing the dash lights, replace the bulb... same places listed have them too...

Hi MHR, Hope you enjoy your new car. The dash lights can be brightened and the bulbs do burn out and can be changed while the instrument cluster is out. Check out the link below on how to DIY. I used aluminum foil and now have to use the dimmer. If you replace bulbs use 194's not 194LL.

For the w/shield washer, the pump may not be working. Check the wire connection to the pump. The pickup tube screen may be clogged inside the tank. The spray nozzles may be plugged use a needle to open up. The fog lights, check the wire connections and clean all ground points. The fuse could be bad and still look good, replace with a new fuse. The switch itself could be bad. I don't know enough about the speakers.
Cheers,
Larry

i removed my lexan instrument cover and mothballed it... next, i replaced the stock bulbs and this helped a little. then i discovered these blue led's at autozone... they fit snug right in the groove where the instrument cover used to be. perfect fit and you can't tell they are there. the led light measures about 3" x 1/4" cylindrical in shape and can be swivelled all the way flat to make a perfect cylinder... then the lights can be turned to face the instruments as desired... 4 led's were required [2 pair].
now i got a nice, ice-blue panel - backlit and frontlit - and no more fugly plastic instrument cover.

i want to get the cf instrument bezel from Porscheshop in a few days... anyone know a us vendor for the bezel ? as for your "to do list..." it will get much bigger.

Hey MHR, welcome to rennlist!
I have noticed some cabs' driver doors do get a little sticky. You could either try loosening the door mounting bolts and realigning it, or do it the redneck way and put a floorjack (and a block of wood as a cusion) under the door and jack it up to flex it back into the right position.....
If you get a chance, post up a pic of your car, and add your location to your user profile so maybe a local member can help out when needed!

Thanks for all the help. Will start looking at the issues this weekend.
Will update my profile now. I am in Montreal, Canada. Have not been able to take pictures camera is dead. Will pick up a new one soon and post some shots.
Re the cluster lighting any writeup on removing the cluster itself to work on it?
Thanks

Blue is not a good color for dash lights and night vision IMO. A normal refurbishment of the cluster results in good, adjustable light output for very little cost. Remember you do not need superbright dash lights, the important goings-on are outside of the car where it is dark. Blinding yourself with your dash lights is not wise. [Ever see Saab's Night Panel? very cool.]
If your cab is a 91 you will want to take care not to trip the airbag sensor if you get into the dash, remove the steering wheel, or disconnect the battery. If it is a 1990 that warning is easy to reset.
FYI - Rear 3rd brake light bulbs for the cabriolet can be found in the hardware store's low-voltage outdoor lighting section for a lot less than the cost at the auto parts store. If you want to get them at the auto parts store the lamp is the same one used on Corvette convertibles of the same vintage so you can look those up in the parts book. 12v bi-pin halogen bulbs, the wattage I forget but you can look it up. 50 watts is too much so don't get those.

Porschedude, the village comes through again - thanks... mhr, one last thing, you have to cut about 1 inch out of the fourth light stick to make it fit... the led-sticks rock and
my panel ISN'T too bright... it's just about perfect. very safe, as i want to be able to see a skunk scratching his *** on a moonless night...
you might also want to check out luft's thread about his restoration project. lots of good stuff you may have missed. good luck with the car, mhr.
