depends on your climate. up in dovah you probably get close to 0 so you and the cannucks want 5w or 0w oil.

out here in california where "winter" means maybe 50 in the morning we have more choice. i run 20w-50 dinosaur juice year round and have no issues with oil pressure

I run 0W40 all year round in NC and havent had any issues. Only see 20's on occasion, I would just switch to a thinner oil.

That's your first problem. You can idle it all day long and the oil will not get very warm, especially on a cold day.

Drive a car to warm it up. Low load / low RPM's until everything is warmed up.

My Audi has an oil temp gauge, on a cold winter day it doesn't move on my way to work. Even after the coolant is all warmed up.

I thought 15w50 is good for up to -10 celcius. maybe i'm wrong?

maybe i'll switch to 5w50 then in a few weeks.

today the temps are suppose to dop down to -4.

according to the owners manual and checking some online sites, a 15w oil (15w50) should flow down to -15 celcius. The coldest it gets here is like -10 celcius.

so it is still necessary to go to a thinner oil.

my engine indles like **** and doesn't sound too happy when I start it in the cold, and I have a new engine temp sensor, idle control valve, vacuum lines etc. once the engine coolant temp has warmed up it sounds and idles much better.
