![Question](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/icons/icon5.gif)
I have a 1987 951 with a bad steering rack. Is the power steering rack for the 87 944Turbo the same as for the n/a 87 944?
Thanks for help.

My understanding is that they are the same. There was a change between 86 and 87 to accommodate the ABS system. I think the main difference is the length of the tie rods and not the rack itself.

Not to hijack, exactly, but has anyone used these guys for a reman? Personally I'd rather pay for my rack to be reman'd and know what I'm getting and who did it, than mess with vendor-supplied "rebuilt" (usually seals and paint).

Hi 944Ross, I have one in my Mustang right now and have been very satified with it. You might check out Advance Auto or Auto Zone for their rack as they have a good price also.
Cheers,

AutoZone and such are the ones that just clean, paint and put in some seals. I've gotten some (not for 944's) that were worse than what I took out.

I bought a rebuilt PS rack from them on ebay in the spring. No issues to date.

I have bought two of autozone rebuilts and have about 45k miles one - still workin. The one on my NA never seemed right though (would stick a little) but lifetime warranty replaced it. I wish I could get that kind of warranty on the other parts I've put into these cars. ;] Bruce

Not necessarily. Most all of these cars are now of legal drinking age in most states. Rubber parts (seals) wear out.
Putting P/S fluid in, instead of ATF can complicate matters.

Another quick question: On an earlier post, BILL said that one should always replace the reservoir when replacing the rack because there is a filter in it that prevents particles from entering the rack. But what part exactly is the "reservoir"?
