Muscle cars are good for drag racing because that's all they're good for. You can't autoX something that handles like a beer truck, well,ok ,you can, but it's no fun.

God What about the S2K, Type R, RSX Type S, Civic SIR, CRX. Those cars are all great autoxers some need little performance upgrades. I have a HUGE racing vid library if anyone wants to see these cars on the track. I can MSN them to you.

I have a confession, I have committed blasphemy, I get groceries in my Porsche. I feel so ashamed... Will Rennlist forgive me of my sins?

instead of "Hale Mary", do I have to say "Hale Perry(951)"?

I say we welcome another into the fold. We all know too well the addiction that will take hold of him. Think about it this way, if the PO of whatever 951 this guy gets ahold of would let it go to such an unfit home as a Drag racer, then he should be striped of his honors anyway. And since this guy obviously hangs out in car forums he will need to find a new one for his new make and when he comes here we can convert him into a role model Porsche owner... I love my 944, but seriously guys, get a life and realize that in fact it IS just a car, atrophy will take hold and one day it will be no more. it's all that other mumbo jumbo that makes ownership worthwhile, like the friends you make and all the beer you drink while working on the cars. I think that was enough sloppy philosophy for one day. I'll shut up now.

Remember the joke, why are fat chicks like Vespas? Same rules apply here - You can have a huge amount of fun autoxing something that doesn't handle worth a s**t and has too much power! Don't you like drifting? It's just like taking one of our cars out in the snow. You can have stupid amounts of fun in a RWD car with insufficient traction. Of course it's not the fastest way; in an autox you need handling, in the snow you want AWD, but it will sure make you grin to be driving sideways with RWD! <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" />

Not to be elitist, but the fact is Porsches are NOT for everyone. I'm selective in who I recommend a 951 to. The owner must have a great deal of respect, considerable financial resources, and the understanding that if abused these cars can get extremely expensive, frustrating, even dissapointing. A backup daily driver is almost mandatory if you plan on modding much beyond stock. If some poor sap can only scrape together 5gs, buys the cheapest 951 he can find, and expects to be his primary transport while drag racing and not breaking the bank he's in for a rude awakening. He'll end up walking a lot and cussing the car he now is into for over 10K$. If you think you don't need regular oil changes 'cause the last owner put in "synth".. etc.. You will live the rest of your days telling stories about how you once had a PORSH that was the biggest piece of **** ever. The cars are not designed for repeated hard launches. Sure, you can drag race them, but you will eventually pay a large price for it.
Again, they are not for everyone. Do the prospective owner a favor and share with them the hard truth before telling them what a great toy it can be!

Dan P,

Your rendition of the subject doesn't sound elitist at all, it's just practical and makes sense. Taking it from that perspective I'd actually have to sway towards the "no" side of the debate.

Well, I was gonna post there and recommend a 951, but then they tried to charge me money to join? F that.

BTW - might want to edit your posts - tell him 951's can break into 12's with minimal work.

thanks stuttgart i will fix that, this kind of upsets me that some of the people here would be so quick to judge. I have heard many stories of drag racing in the p-cars, most people here are performance oriented, i dont understand how thats different, i understand that drag racing is hard on the cars and it will be an expensive hobby if he did geta p-car and go that direction, BUT i can probably assume that he wont get one because if you followed the linki linked back to rennlist after telling the guy how great a site we had here and most of the people who posted back to my post just bashed the guy. One of the biggest reasons i have kept my 924 is because of this board and my 924 board, i have many times gotten sooo frustrated wiht my car and said that i was gonna sell it, it has been on ebay a few times also, because i have never found another site with people who were this willing to help. But what do you think the guy who came here to concider one of our great cars???

Mark
