Default Caliper lettering

I recently purchase a pair of used calipers, which the seller claimed were from a 968. One of the calipers has red lettering and is considerably more used than the one with white lettering. As it's a 951- part number, can anyone tell me what model P-car the red-lettered caliper may have come from?

What's the part number? Front or rear?
968's (non-M030) are the same as 87+ 951(non-S)/S2 calipers. 86 951 calipers have different piston sizes. All rears are the same for any 951(S)/968/S2

Actually the calipers are not identical from 951 to 968. 951 calipers have raised letters and 968 calipers have painted-on letters. And I thought 968 front brake pistons were larger but I am not 100% sure.

I have never seen a stock caliper with red lettering though.

Late model 951 & S2 calipers have also painted letters.

Both calipers have painted lettering. The caliper with red lettering had a discolored (white?) decal that was a bit out of alignment with the red painted lettering. I scraped off the decal with my fingernail; it just crumbled off.

These calipers are identical (left and right) in every other way, except the apparent age and use of the red-lettered caliper, which I'm afraid to use without rebuilding. The least I'll do is replace the dustboots, repaint it and apply a white decal, so I might as well do the same to the other.

Just kind of bites that I bought a pair alleged to be from a 30k car. I suspect this red-lettered caliper has way more miles on it than that.

The best way to find out is those calipers same is to pop out the pistons. For example 964 calipers look like identical but there is a difference in piston height compared to 951 ones.

There is a '90 S2 cab parked outside that has raised letters on the calipers. I just looked.

Thanks, Arash. I think that answers it. I hate to call BS on a Rennlister, but money's very tight and I'm not pleased.

From what I've heard, the later 951 and S2s shared certain parts with the 968, like the calipers. So it's possible to find raised letters and painted letters on the calipers of the same year vehicle.

I bought some turbo/S2 brakes from a 'lister here which were originally on his '91 S2 Cab which had painted letters just like the 968.

you all, the 968 has baby blacks -- not found on any 944 or 951 but possibly on the S2... but i am leaning against that as well. somebody out there knows but better to ask on the 968 forum... a few of the guys up there have extensive knowledge of both cars.

Ony M030 968's have baby blacks (baby blacks are found on 88S and 89 951's and M030 S2's) otherwise they had the normal baby brembos found on 951/S2

When my 1988 951 still had original brakes there was painted letters.

Well it seems there is quite a bit of confusion and mix-up with these calipers!
