Question Time for a turbo rebuild?

I found a 951 that the owner says needs a rebuild on the turbo. He says it leaves a film of oil in the intercooler pipes. Does it need a turbo, or is it something else?

Not enough data to generate meaningful response.

Film of oil in intercooler pipes is not uncommon, even in healthy 951s.

Wouldn't there also be an excessive amount of blue smoke too?

I have a thin film inside my intercooler pipes as well and a healthy turbo....even good ones let just a little bit of oil by from what I understand. If you have pools of oil and blue smoke, that is a good indication of rebuild time....that or poor boost building, getting to the turbo and finding excessive play in the shaft, etc. Find out why they think it needs rebuilding if you get a PPI. If the mechanic thinks it needs rebuilding, might be a way to get the price of the car down some to cover the repair as part of the purchase.

Cheers!
