Post My wife's gona Kill me if I buy this car....?

I'm seriously thinking of buying a 1988 turbo 944.
this would be an upgrade from my 1984 944 N/A.
The turbo is in great shape, strong paint and
clean interior,114k @ $10,000.ie: The problem..
I have to use the "house money" most of which
is from my hard extra work.Wife not real happy
with this.. <img border="0" alt="[grrrrrrr]" title="" src="graemlins/cussing.gif" /> But oh man do I like this Car.
She tells me I know you want this but do You realy
need it..(how do you get around that!)
Help Me Out - WHAT WOULD YOU DO.....?

This is what I want <img border="0" alt="[jumper]" title="" src="graemlins/jumper.gif" />

But this is what might happen <img border="0" alt="[crying]" title="" src="graemlins/crying.gif" />

Thanx Herb "the hopeful"

ive got my rx7 convertible for sale.

we agreed i would put the $ from the sale to pay down the home equity, AND, when i sell either the S2 or firebird convertible i take the proceeds from that, and put it into my next toy.

there are enough 944s of all types out there. agree on an additonal amount, sell the na then party on.

House first, car later. Then when you've got to spend the bucks on repairs and upgrades, she'll never say a word. This message is brought to you by the "been there, done that department".

does house money meand down payment or improvements. if the proceeds of the rx7 become house money im putting up new cedar siding or renovating the master crapper.

as long as water doesnt come in from the existing siding, and water goes out the existing plumbing, house money is not in my future. diapers first, toys second, renovations third.

My opinion? Your house is an appreciating asset. The car is not. I wouldn't risk the resentment of your loved one (and long term, it will probably eat at her) over a car.

Good luck!!

I vote that you let the Wife win this round, and then sell your N/A and get a turbo when means permit. The wife will be a lot more flexible, and if you are willing to sell your current 944 then she'd understand this is a must do, and that she already got what she wanted.

How old are you????
I waited until I was 44 for my turbo, House first, kids, then the Porsche. Of course, my wife is the type who never complains about anything I buy anyway.

I have to agree that the house should come first (as mentioned by icat and others). I went the opposite route and am paying for it now. I'm in the middle of major renovations to my home, which makes time and money hard to come by for the 951. It has been sitting in the garage for almost two months now!

Buy the house, your wife would be justified in killing you if you got the turbo first.

Making wife happy pays more dividends in the end. Just my opinion. Live to boost another day.

I bought the Turbo when my wife, kids, and I lived in an apartment. I worried about the car constantly (outside & no garage), and if I had it to do over again I would have waited. Luckily for me, I sold stock when the price was high and had plenty left for the down payment on the house. After we bought our home the 951 sat for several years while we made improvements to the house (yard, furniture, curtains, etc.). Now, it's my turn. The wife has what she wants and I have the green light for just about anything I want. Gotta love that woman!
