paint will eventually come off of a tire but it looks pretty ugly having tires with overspray all over them. just spend the 5 minutes it takes to mask it off and i think you will be more pleased with the results.

The more I look at those wheels the more I like them. So, I conducted a little test to see just how hard it is to polish them up. Here is about 30 minutes work,(only one spoke and a few inches of the bead) first with a palm sander then with a buffing wheel. Might be able to speed up the process a little with better compounds but still looking at a lot of work.

Tip: don't do this in your shop, it makes a hell of a mess.
Also, I would have said no way to the low profile tires but they do give the car that updated bigger wheel look. And just thinking, I could go for a little more artificial low-end torque. Anybody else have good or bad things to say about performance changes due to low profile tires? <img border="0" alt="[bigbye]" title="" src="graemlins/xyxwave.gif" /> Bruce

When I painted mine I was getting new tires anyway and couldn't get the old ones removed that day so I pulled the old valve stems out pushed the base into the wheel and they deflated well enough to get the edges.
That is if you are not going to use those tires.
If you look over his shoulder the tire guy should be a lot more careful with your fresh wheels.

The black fuchs we had on the Anderson Motorworks race car were painted with regular spray can paint and no clear coat and they havent peeled or chipped before.
If you are using this painting technique for race cars, i wouldn't use any wax on the wheels after paint because the silicones in the wax reacts when there is a lot of brake dust on the wheel.
I think most spray paints can resist heat up to around 197F. I dont think your wheels can get that hot in the first place.
