Post should I swap?

Hello, my car has the door panels that have "Porsche" embrossed into the door all the way across. I know someone that wants to swap mine for his plain ones. How much do you think I should do it for? Or shouldn't I do it at all? How rare are these panels?

Do you guys even know what I'm talking about?

if not i can probably dig up a pic

I know what you're talking about, I kinda like them so I'd keep them, but wouldn't be worth it to me to pay for them, if you don't care then do it and get some cash, but as far as how much that is up to you. I've seen them before but not often, so I'd say they are not very common.

I've never seen them obviously they cannot be very common. If I were you I'd keep the doors unless you are looking to part the car out.

i like those things and see them every once in a while.. i just have plain ones on my NA.. i would get them, but then i would want to change the dash board, the carpet, the seats, the steering wheel, the shifter and also the plastic covering that's on the a-pillar, sunroof and sides in the back.... maybe late when i can find a dead 924S.

It seems like it would just be a hassle if you weren't getting all that much money for them. Also, what is the condition of them. It would not be good if you were trading for some of cheaper quality. I dont really know how 'rare' they are, but if you really like them, might as well just keep them.

Tim, just remember that this year the '83 cars officially become "classics."

I'd keep the car original a little longer and see how the "classic car" market reacts to the early 944s "coming of age." You may be surprised by the '83s going up a little in value. More than you'd probably get for swapping the door panels.

A few often overlooked points about the '83:

-Forged rods
-Lighter curb weight
-Manual steering was stock (not for wussies <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" /> )

Just a thought.

The 83 became a classic five years ago. next year my 89 becomes a classic. at least thats what the hobby insurance companies say. but a brand new corvette or viper is automatically an exotic. whats the difference between an exotic, classic or collectible?

my 68 firebird is a classic. it has been worth the same amount from about 1980 till last year. it is just starting to appreciate now, and the rapid risers are the ones with big blocks and oddball options that the collectors want.

the people with the money arent the ones that look at classic cars, the are the ones thaty buy collector cars. the 944 has very little upside collector potential. it may be a "classic" but probably wont be considered a collectible in my lifetime.

check out what a late 60's 911 goes for and what a 83 carrera rs goes for.
