1. I enjoy the local PCA beer nights.

2. I use my card for a 10% discount at my local Porsche dealership for parts.

3. I'll let someone else chime in.

WHAT?
Hey I'm going to have to get that tradition started at my club!

UDPride - Go to this website, find some events in you area and get with the action.
http://www.pca.org/

I am also a newbie with the PCA but I am finding many opportunities to either socialize, get your car on the track, or both! You should be getting a newsletter from your region with some fun things to do. I am thinking of joining a second region so I can have no life and spend all my time fiddling with my car.

Who's next?

Nice avitar Raceit!

Oh ya! The 1st and 3rd Wednsday at 7pm we all meet at a local bar with a nice outside deck area. We hang our banners up and make a night out of it. It's tons of fun.
But we have our "old guard" that does breakfeast every Saturday morning at a Perkins at 7am. I don't know about any of you, but being anywhere but in bed Saturday morning is next to impossible.

I like your avatar too!

My first PCA event was a shine and show concours at the local dealership a few years ago. I showed up, not knowing anyone. I was walking around and got to talking to a guy with a beautiful '73 RS. I mentioned that I had just joined and he asked me what I drove. I hesitantly sold him, having heard all of the snobby PCA 911 bias stories. His eyes lit up and he said, "An S2 with the 3 liter engine? I always liked those." A minute later he was admiring my car! By the end of the morning I had met many of the members and, naturally, fell in with the 944 guys to talk shop.

Bottom line - take the plunge and just go to an event or meeting. You will probably be happily surprised. PCA'ers love Porsches and talking Porsches.

The chapter membership chairmen get an new listing of members every month. You should start getting your chapter newsletter and, probably, email invites to meetings and events. You have to take the initiative and go. I found my local chapter to be very welcoming and I quickly had a new group of friends and fun stuff to do on many weekends. It helps if you offer to assist with events, even if it is cleanup or counting concours ballots.

Just like anything - you only get out of it what you put into it.

Same here. Sure there's fun slander between water and air cooled engines. But there is a deep respect for each other's car. Even a guy with a 924 gets the same respect as a guy with the 930. ...Well...almost.

Anyways when I got my S2 it didn't have any service records on it. So I had to change out the belts on it. I was able to talk with people there and I ended up doing the whole job by my self. I was even able to borrow all the Porsche specific tools I needed.
It saved me money. And gave a first time Porsche owner a great sense of satisfaction to complete such a "big" project. Now I can return the favor and offer my experience (what little I have) to the pool for other new comers.

Just a story of help from PCA. I called the local chapter guy right after I moved back here to Mississippi, and he vouched for the local independent German car wrench. When I flubbed a 7ftlb torque and stripped it, I called him and he loaned me part of his Wurth Timesert kit. When I took it back to him, and he loaned me a borescope and a long flexible light for something else, without my even asking. I'll have to give him some business soon.
