Red face

How about an audible shift signal? Like the early RX-7 that didn't have a rev-limiter, so it would honk the horn? And it wouldn't stop until you shifted...

Horns removed - too much weight - try again

Honestly, I can't hear much inside the car... I think the visual would work better for me.

Cool

How about a monster tach?
nothing less than 5" diameter for the tach would be acceptable...

wire a relay from the shift light to one of those dog shock collars and wear it when you drive. Thats what AMAF does. I've seen it.

Skip,
I have the autometer in my car and I like it a lot. It is bright as hell if you don't put the cover on it, especially at night. Yes, it is hooked up through a 5" tach; and no it doesn't look ricey because it is not the ONLY mod I have, unlike some civics out there. But I do recommend it highly and it is very accurate.

Thanks, Purv - I'm partial to the Autometer also... have a couple other of their gauges... and, it's less expensive <img src="graemlins/jumper.gif" border="0" alt="[jumper]" />

BTW, anybody know if the Tach in the later cars can be rotated? I've only had one apart, and I can't remember.

Also, anyone try fitting a 3.75" Autometer Tach in the stock area? Seems it would fit... with a little help.

No, its true...I used to have an '88 rx-7 turbo II and an '81 rx-7 wtih an '89 n/a motor. The '81 didn't make any noise when it tached out, but the '88 did. It was pretty obnoxious...it would have an audiable buzz and a yellow light would come on the dash every time you would get it up over 7 grand. The rotary engines didn't seem to get louder and louder with increasing revs like most piston engines, so I guess mazda thought this would be a good way to ensure people didn't over rev their motors. I heard that noise probably 20 or 30 times a day when I had that car.

Rotary: the most effecient way to turn air and fuel into noise.
