Just put my new motor mounts in the S2 today. Both of the old ones were completely shot and just sitting on the bottom. No wonder the ride was so rough before.
Definately makes the idle a LOT more smooth and it doesn't vibrate badly under WOT anymore. Not too bad of a job either. A couple hours (in the rain no less) well worth it for the ride quality improvement.

I had the same feeling when I did mine. I knew that they were starting to go bad. Then the rubber hub on my clutch went. After putting in the new power clutch and the turbo mounts it felt like a new car. (Well it only has 30,000 miles, so I guess it is practicly new, but you get the idea)

My passenger side mount has already gotten bad after just 14,000 miles and 9 months. I used the aftermarket part, but I think the real problem was that my 951 was missing the motor mount heat shield. When I finally get around to replacing it again, I will definitely get the Porsche mount and source the heat shield.

The ones that were on my car were aftermarket too I believe. They were replaced at 116k before now at 143k. But I'm pretty sure they had been shot for several thousand before I finally replaced them today. I've read many times on here that a lot of the aftermarket ones aren't very good and go bad really fast.

Hey dave,
Did you have experience replacing the mounts before? It looks like I may need to do mine and am wondering A: How much would it cost to have a mechanic do it?
B: How much did it cost YOU to do it?

I haven't had any experience with 944 motor mounts before, but I've helped with some on other cars. But I've done all the work on this car myself (with my dad). All it cost me to do it was the cost of the mounts. So far I haven't found a job on this car that's too much of a pain to do. That may change when it's time to do the timing belt and clutch but...I still prefer working on it to anything domestic or Japanese..you only need a metric set of tools to work on this!

Dan, haven't done it myself, but AFAIK the solid mounts are for track cars where high levels of vibration & noise are acceptable... doubt very much from what I've read here in the past that you'd want them on a street car.
Of course, if you have any incipient kidney stones, you'd likely find out about them fairly quickly...
Jim, headed for the rain locker...
