Post Upper Strut Mount

I have ordered all the parts required to do the Koni inserts on my '87 951 except the upper strut mounts. Jason at Paragon tells me that they can no longer get the mounts and suggested that I call the dealer and be sitting down when I heard the price. I wasn't ready to do camber plates which Jason also suggested.

I removed one of the mounts today and turned the bearing with my finger. It doesn't feel smooth but turns easily.

This is one time I wish I had an '86. Those strut mounts are cheap and available. Does anyone have any ideas? Keep the old ones or sell my soul to the dealer?

You could try and find a set from a low mileage wrecked car, possibly from one of the dismantlers on the list.
Speaking of which. I bought a used set and put them on our '84. What is the proper orientation of the thick rubber pad on the top ? It is slightly beveled and I forgot to check in a newer model to see how this thick pad is positioned. Anyone know off the top of your heads ? Run out and check your car ?

When I took my bearings out they were cracked and had a fair amount of side to side motion. I think as long as they are in pretty good shape you should be ok.

Speaking of upper strut mounts, does anyone know the best way to torque down on the upper strut bolt? When I put mine back on I overtightened it and shattered the upper strut bearing. But if I don't put it on tight enough, the darn nut keeps wanting to come off. Any ideas?

I finally had to use some red Loctite to hold the top nuts on when I had KYB's on the '84 but since converting to the newer strut bearings and Bilstein inserts the top nuts have stayed tight.
