Post OT- VW Golf R32

I heard bits & pieces about this car and this afternoon I saw a road test on that rice show "Hi rev tuners" or something like that. The show sucks but that car, the R32, is the sh*t! 3.2 V6, 240hp, AWD, 6 speed, etc. I really think I need one of those. $30K for a VW is kinda high but that car is hot. What does the Rennlist community think of this car? Any dissenting opinions?

Pete,

As a past GTi owner, I have lots of good things to say about any and all GTi's. Don't know much about that model, though. Now, ahem, what were you doing even watching that mind-numbing show?!?!? Slow day at the homestead? If you're bored, I've got some driveway for you to shovel......

My Dad had a deposit down on one before the dealer knew what it was, and he came with us to the Detroit NAIAS to see his new toy.

I'm glad to see him heading back into the performance ballpark after liquidating Pcars and driving Lexus for a few years. He's always been a GTI fan, I think he had 3, including a 16V with NOS. This 4x4 should be fun!

It'd be cooler if it were in the tradition of the earlier Golf/GTI - ie. lightweight

IMHO... that's dumb. I know that it is meant to be a performance version... but come on... no sunroof option means that you run the risk of losing some sales. (It would be enough for me not to buy it... especially at $30k!!)

The same 3.2 VR6 engine is going to be available in the new (for the USA) Audi A3. This car will be available with a dual clutch "BMW SMG like" Dynamic Shift Gearbox (DSG) transmission. Should be very nice. There's quite a bit of information on the A3 at Audizine

The R32 as well will be probably be offering the SMG tranny but it will be alot quicker than the one from BMW and Audi, they it's faster than the padels from the F1 =) it's called the DSG....

0.008 sec to shift gear... hmmmmm

The R32 is nice...on paper. Though, in the end it is still a MKIV VW. I've been a member of the VW Vortex for some time...a lot of people have had it with VW's bull****. From the failing window regulators, failing ignition coils, interior squeaks and rattles that don't quit. A/C compressors failing, throttle bodies dying...it is stuff like that that doesn't make me want a VW. My roommate had a MKIV (current body style) GTI VR6. Two door...the window regulators failed 3 times. My other friend with a MKIV Jetta VR6 has gone through 4 window regulators and two throttle bodies.

...nice try VW, but no thanks.
