A $3500 N/A 944 and $2500 to get it ready. New ball joints, bushings, roll bar or cage, Corbeau seats, 5 or 6 point harnesses, Hawk blues, ATE blue or gold fluid and 4 new SOLID rotors (Drilled rotors can get you hurt), and 3 inch hose for front brake ducting.

+1 on the 944 NA. For 6k you could put together a fun track car...and would be much less $$ keeping it running.

Buildin one yourself is half the fun.....
I want to buy a salvage 944 NA, Fix it, Repaint it, Strip it, Rebuild the engine, or swap with a 968 16V and the Race the guts out of it.
Thats my plan.

In our last club race 924S was harassing 997 Gt3RS quite seriously in lead - was catching up in braking and corners, but in straights gt3Rs made gap again. 924S eventually went off track, but was surely nice thing to watch. fastest lap time was given for 924S from that race.

all in all, it's very satisfying if some less hp car outpaces high-hp car. and when you're tracking, with serious driving skills you can make big things with less hp. that's the magic of driving.

I don't know the cost of an M3, but a track-able 951 will be 2x $6,000.

A NA 944 that someone has already set up is the way to go.

depends on whether you want to specifically run a P or not (my opinion the P guys are a great crowd and setup to get in with) if so this is great advice all the way............

I always like to see this, but to be fair it really must be a function of the driver not the car

I have owned every one of these cars. My vote - BMW E36 M3. Why? Parts are relatively cheap (in regards to the group shown), the car is an OUTSTANDING track day car, the drivetrain is one of the easiest there is to work on and is damn near bulletproof, and the normally aspirated aspect of the car can be tuned to well over 300 HP.

Great car, now an outstanding value and and absolute joy to drive.

No such thing as a $6,000 944 turbo or M3 that is safe for the track. Put another $1,000 in the pot and you can buy a fully prepped 944 Cup car.

A 944 is costly and time consuming to sort out. A 924S is sneaky fast as posted above but just as costly. 6K won't touch a well sorted 944/924S. Miata, or E30 BMW would be a great start.
Some here may disagree with me, but a 944 is one of the most expensive cars you can own. You could get a 911sc, or even carrera for less - in the long run- than any 944 varient.
