Post NEED HELP QUICK!

I just took my car in to the shop for a problem with the steering. It was very hard to turn right, but left was fine. This problem was diagnosed as a steering pump problem, shich was replaced as well as the hose and resavoir. I also changed out both balljoints when that wouldn't fix the problem. Well, the problem is still there!
what the heck is wrong with this????????

Sure it's not a Chevy? Infamous for that sort of thing.

Not up on power stering myslef. However, if you did the balljoints and all did you mess with anything else. Something might be binding. Otherwise I would look closely at the rack. Lots of people rebuilding them which points to a weak point.

Who diagnosed the steering pump for this kind of problem ? Not like it pumps in diffrent directions depending on which way you turn !! Sounds more like a rack problem. Most of the parts places on Rennlist can supply you with a nice rebuilt one or you could get a used one from a dismantler.

had the same problem 1 year ago. re-built rack from Advanced Auto-Parts ($290) solved it.

Der Cupmeister, I thoght it was fixed, but after a while, it started being like it was befroe. It's an intermittent problem, and it seemed better. Guess it wasn't though. The balljoints were gone, and it did help to fix tehm, just not all of the problem. Sorry about the confusion.

I'd look around and see if you can find a cheaper rack than $290. I replace it on my '86 2 summers ago and found it for a very reasonable price (it was rebuilt). I can't remember the name (they advertise in Pano freqently... usually a whole page ad), but they add a 3% discount for cash deals and advertise their cash dollar amounts for parts instead of the credit card amount (very misleading) but it was still a lot cheaper.

I want to say I paid around $230-240? I gave the receipt to the new owner of the car so I can't remember exactly. Oh well, hope you fix your problem.

I was also just reading an old thread on the springs inside the rack that adjust the power asist steering at lower speeds (about a $5 fix), and that showed the exact symptoms my car has. Does anyone know about how to change these springs?

I would say a check vave or some sort of valving problem in the rack. I'm puttin' a vote in for the rack as the culprit. Good luck
