Default Advice Needed: How to remove the rear seat bottom

. . . without damaging it.

I want to take the rear seat bottom out of my 968 (early - same design as a 951S) and install it in my 951.

The leather is clipped to a horiz. bar at the rear -is the bar bolted in? How is it and the rest of the rear seat-bottom secured?

TIA
Matt

The bar is actually part of the body. The clips just slide toward the rear. The rest is glued in. Pretty easy to pull w/o damaging

Just slide your hand between the seat bottom and metal, lift slightly as you go, and work slowly. If you are careful it will separate cleanly and not pull any of the foam off making it much easier to reuse. To glue it back down use the 3M contact cement in the can; the aerosol version isn't strong enough when the car heats up in the Summer and the seat will lift.

I figured you would have the old seat off, installed in the new car, and eliminated the national debt by Monday so I struck early. Be careful around those seat belt holes mine were really glued down there for some reason. I changed oil/filters in the truck today...nothing like 15 quarts of synthetic Rotella and 3 filters to set ya back a buck or two. I think I know how the 911 guys must feel now.

whatever you do Matt, don't remove the glue... it will work great when you add the new carpet from Deutsch Nine, which I assume your are going to do... just add in the new glue around the edges, making sure you use a liberal amount and sit down in it for a while... let the kids take over once it starts to set. Make sure your glue is good for plastic.

The molded carpet should cut down on the noise and will look especially good too.
