Angry Where do I attach the engine stand?

Can someone please describe where I bolt into the block to put the engine on a standard 4-bolt stand? I can't figure it out! <img border="0" alt="[ouch]" title="" src="graemlins/c.gif" />

Never done a 944 motor but most motors will bolt up where the bell housing was.

So how's it coming?

Hey Dave, its going good. I'm waiting on large deliveries of parts to get really going, but there's lots of little things to be done in the meantime. If you ever have the time and want to stop by and check everything out just let me know.

So I need to remove the bellhousing, what about all the clutch stuff? Can that stay on or will it get in the way? Also, the stand didn't come with any bolts so will the ones out of the bellhousing fit properly or do i need to buy new ones? The length of the cylinder on the arms that the bolt goes through is about 2 and 3/4 inches so the bolt will have to be pretty long.

What's the word on your motor?

Attach the hoist to the bracket at the rear of the cam tower, and the one by the alternator.

I did a huge step by step not too long ago. Anyone have it?

Perry - Yeah, I saw that write-up, thanks. The engine is already out though and almost completely stripped down. The problem is I can't take off the head with it still on the hoist. The engine stand was delivered today but I can't figure out how to put the engine on it!

Andre - Nothing to exciting, I'm just trying to get my car is shape for the upcoming autocross season. It was about time for a belt job, and my clutch was feeling funny. My motor mounts were due. I wanted to delete the AC. Get some MSDS headers. Etc, etc. I decided it would be a fun project to pull the engine and replace everything! Well, not everything. I'm not touching the bottom end, but everything seems fine down there. I'll know more when I get the head off and can look at everything.

One thing I do know is, if I find anything wrong with the bottom end only an Anderson 2.7 or maybe a 968 engine is going back in!

Thanks! That makes alot more sense now. Do I need to remove all of the clutch 'stuff' to get it on? It appears so from the picture.

Also, can I still use the flywheel lock with the bellhousing removed? I couldn't tell what was bellhousing and what was block down there as there's a fair amount of gunk down there.

Shoot. I still haven't joined PCA yet. I should probably get on that. I already have plans for tomorrow night but keep a lookout and see if they've got my trophy.

You can keep the clutch on, if the stand is deep enough. Mine was not. You cannot have the bell housing on, the stand attaches to the mounting points on the block.
