New to 944, need mech advice
I just acquired an 84 944, 168k miles, NO maintenance records (AH!). I am having engine work done by a local shop that specializes in PORSCHE and races 944's. My biggest concern is that because I am unfamiliar with this car and mechanical work in general that I will get ripped off, or that they will lie about other things needing to be done that really don't. I know I need to replace all belts...what else should I get done without paying for a complete overhaul? The engine runs VERY strong and smooth. It has an oil leak on the front right...couldn't find the source even when I put the car on a lift. I expect you to say replace water pump, seals....anything else? I don't want any surprises, and I know I am looking at big $$$. Should I get parts online, or let him buy them for me? Thanks for any help you can be!!!

You might be better off getting the parts from places like Paragon and letting the mechanic install them (if they let you). Cool mechanics do, some don't.
Just don't let them do any work until they give you prices, of course, and what they think needs to be done. Then take that list, post it here, and let the experts (certainly not me) respond!
Also, take pictures of your car and join <a href="http://www.p-caronline.com" target="_blank">P-CarOnline.com</a> so we can see!
