Red face 944 bell housing

well first off my car jacked up. when i put it in gear it just reved and didn't go anywhere. but everything felt normal besides the fact that it didn't go anywhere. so we started checking little stuff and what do you know the friggin transmission bell housing is cracked, right around where the input shaft comes in. so i'm pretty sure that was the problem. but my question is this, will i have to get a whole new transmission, or can i just get the bell housing. and where in the world can i get a bell housing, new, but preferably used. any thought would be appreciated.

WHat you need is a new torque tube. The torque tube has the tranny housing on it.

What I fear is that there is more to it. I think your tranny may be damaged as well.

The housing acts more as a guide...since the shaft connects to the shaft on the tranny...

As I understand it, the bellhousing back there is just a left over part from Audi's original design of the transmission. Audi tried putting the clutch back there, right in front of the transmission on their cars.

I think (very uneducated guess) that a cracked bellhousing wouldn't be the problem, but a symptom of it. Something had to happen to make it crack. A bad torque tube or transmission might have done it.

Are you SURE that it's cracked? I say this because there are casting marks on both the tranny and the housing on the end of the tube that look a lot like a "spiderweb" type of crack.
