Exclamation now what did i break???? suspension issue. PICS ADDED

i was pulling into a gas station through an enteance with a very large change in elevation... or a steep hill. while pulling from the road onto the hill to get into the parking lot, after slowing down considerably like always, i hear a very noticeable clunk/clank from the rear passenger corner. after parking, my passenger and i discovered that corner to be much lower than the other side.

so after limping it home a few miles, all looks normal. and i didnt feel any difference on the way. though i was only going 20 mph and there were no turns.

needless to say im scared to drive it right now out of fear of totally destroying something and being stranded.
so what could have happened and why is it looking normal again???

TIA
Justin

I dont have a real camera. mabey santa is feeling generous this year??
if someone has any idea of what could possibly cause what happened, then i could take a look and mabey a better picture. cause like i said, i have no idea what to look for.

is it posssible that the suspension was fully compressed and it got stuck and didnt rebound until i drove it again?

the suspension is a torsion bar. unless the splines on the bar stripped...or the bar itself snapped. or carrier is....gone.

can u still bounce it?

If everything look ok (srings plates, shocks, sway bar ect I'll go with Krystar sound like a torsion bar ,is the car still lower on the pass side or is it sitting normal now?

If your ride height is still uneven, my guess is that you forced the eccentric height adjustment out of place on one side. That's an adjustable link in the torsion bar spring plates that allows about an inch of adjustment. If forced, one side could slip. You'd need to adjust it to even it out.

Your shocks wouldn't permanently influence ride height. If you can bounce up and down and both sides move, then I'd focus on the eccentric adjustment. Search here and you'll see where it is.

It's hard to imagine that a torsion bar slipped or bent.

I also agree with you Greg but the problem seem that he doesn't know what to look for and unless he take close-up pics of the adjustable link in the torsion bar spring plate and send it on the site he could be looking forever,is best bet will be for him to get somebody witch is familiar with the 944 rear suspension set up & check if the adjustment did move , and we all know that the eccentric heigth adjustement is a little tricky to do on them car.

Did it look like this? If not, I think your torsion bars are still intact.

That's going back awhile. Isn't that Kevin's old car when his lower shock bolt sheared?

^thats v-dub style right there, and no, lol, no where close to that.

the rear does still bounce (both sides) and both sides are now at there normal ride height.
like i stated in the first post after driving it for a minute all looked normal.

im not 100% sure on the opreation of torsion bars or the spring plate eccentric adjustment. but ive seen threads about it and i even saved a drawing someone did that explains how to adjust the height.

If it's even now and functioning normally then forget it. I'll send you a bill for my services.

Even though i love how sometimes my car fixes things itself, it worries the hell out of me, and i hate to not do anything about something like this. but really, what can i do if there is nothing to do?
