It would be like a short rally in the snow.

NNJR got snow for the season opener 3 or 4 years ago, I'd love to try it(just throw the snow tires back on). Not much chance this year, first event isn't until 4/27.

The BMW Club in Boston runs Ice Races (AutoX) on a lake in NH. I've been dying to do it for atleast 2 years and I finally got to go last week. There were PCA people there, but no P-cars. Lots of bimmers, Subies, Audi's, etc. I took the wife's 330. If interested, click here for some pics.

At least they left the tow hook in so it would be easier to pull them out.

I know in NY they were starting rally-cross right before I left, auto-x in the dirt, and i'm still upset I didn't get to try it, but man does the snow rallying look like fun....

Humm, time to think about a subaru?

Here in what used to be called the "water, winter, wonderland", we have a lot of fun on the ice (and snow). Now our Michigan license plates say the "Great Lake State". Either way - we don't let the snow and cold stop our fun. We have several winter rallies - including my SCCA Road Rally (Son of Sno*Drift)in January and the real Sno*Drift Pro Rally a couple weeks later. Both of these events are presented by Detroit Region SCCA. The Saginaw Vally Region (SVR) of SCCA has put on at least 4 ice runs this year. Ice runs are much like Solo II on frozen lakes. I was able to attend the last two of the year and the speeds were more like Solo I. I saw 90 mph on one of my runs two weeks ago. Unfortunately I was unable to make the next gate - but 80+ mph was the norm on all other runs. Course lengths were 1.85 miles two weeks ago and last week the course was more than 2 miles in length. Last week, times ranged from 2.57 to 3.20 minutes. (note that is hundredths of a minute).

If I knew how to post photos here I could put a couple up. There were a lot of Audis, a few BMWs, VWs, Talons, WRXs and a bunch of other different models. Most everyone runs on Blizzaks or similar, but there are classes for cars on studded tires too. I don't have studded tires for my 944 so I drove one of my Talons.

It is a blast!!! <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" />
