Default O2 Sensor for Race Car?

Do I need to run an O2 sensor in my race car? I know a bunch do not, but is there any benefit or downside to not running one?

if it's a real racecar...no road use, you don't need a cat, therefore all you'll need is the first sensor, must have unless you're running a stand along ignition and fuel system that gets a reading from elsewhere. the 0 2 sensor monitors you fuel mixture, without it you may run too lean or too rich

What do you mean "first sensor?" There is only one O2 sensor, and there is not car.
