Default Strange noise: E-Brake?

I am getting a strange noise on a more and more regular basis, like metal grinding on metal, but squealing. It sounds like it's coming from the right rear area, and it gets worse when moving slowly, or turning. I'm thinking it sounds just like bad e brake shoes, but I don't know how well they work since the E brake hasn't worked since I owned the car. Thoughts? Things to look for?

Rear wheel bearings are a better place to look than the P-brake shoes...

Happy to see you back!

Thanks John How would I go about checking such bearings without paying someone else to?

the rear bearings are a little harder to check. i had lots of noise in mine but no play...
they usually sound like a clicking or growling instead of metal rubbing.
maybe look for a bent dust shield or just take off the rear discs to see if the e-brake stuff is broken and laying/rubbing in there.

My e brake was all messed up. It had essentially all fallen apart inside causing some really deep gouges 1/4 of an inch + on the inside of the disc drum. My sound was an occasional metallic "tinkle" that I would get driving at low speeds, especially turning. It might be worth a look.
