91 944S2 value (engine locked ?)

I got the report on the car,
title renewed in 96, 99, 2000, 09. car used to be originally in Florida, after 2000 it went to Tennessee, then in Texas around 2007-2008.
odometer reading last reported in 99, with 118,256 miles.
Accident reports,
2000, rear ended
2003, accident left front (Moderate damage )
No history of maintenace or repairs done at the dealer,

I would buy something from a private owner before I'd buy ANYTHING from "mike's pre-owned superstore" !
That said...if it was in a few accidents I would be very careful !
THen again...if it does have LSD and/or M03 suspension as Tom mentioned (and if the parts are all still on the car)...it's probably still worth $2000.00.
Heck...you could sell the hoop-spoiler and the LSD trans and break even ....never mind the suspension......that is IF you wound up having to part it.
If it's LSD, I'd make the guy a low-ball offer for like $1500 cash and see what happens.

Everyone wants these old 944s off their lots for some reason... So, my guess is that this S2 is gonna be gone fast... but in the case of any 944 nowadays, I think you can buy one anywhere and still have pretty much the same stuff, good, bad and ugly going on. Especially since you are dealing with previous owners who usually, have kept the cars up well, but are now moving on... but the silver lining -- if there is one, is that we are not talking big-money cars anymore, cept for the upkeep, of course.

The only option that may have cost $ is the leather and maybe the CD. everything else was standard in 90, so i think it was standard in 91.

And few 944S cars are probably converted to 8V due to the many differences in ECU, intake, bellhousing, flywheel, etc. It'd be way easier to put an S2 motor in an S than an 8v.
Maybe it has happened but it's more likely the cars purported to be 944S with an 8V swap are actually 8V 944's with some badge-engineering.

as for 8 valve engines, There is an 87 and an 88 944 that have the 8 valve engine in them, I dont remember if they run or not.
do you guys change the chain with factory Porsche ones or after market ones ?

Nah. The 16v heads have been improved a couple times but the tensioner does not come off unless the pad wears out or falls apart first. The chain will wear and stretch but that's true of all the 16v 944 and 32v 928, and the 968. Same chain. Not a big deal. Change it when you do the valve guides and get the cams rebuilt if they are really worn.

We plan on either doing the martini or the gulf theme to it maybe next summer. Have to see how my house renos go for free time.

Just an update,
I did not buy the car, But someone else did and did a beautiful LS1 swap, turns out that the engine stopped working when the owner was trying to pass a 911 in the race track. I went saw it today because the new owner wanted to sell the old 91 S2 engine for only $400. He had taken the head off and apparently the fuel had washed the cylinder walls and they were gauged up pretty bad by the rings, I was not sure if the engine could even be turned easily with the walls like that, all 4 cylinders were damaged and needed to be re bored or Nikasil coated. With the way the walls looked I would not doubt that the pistons were damaged too. The head looked pretty good, seemed like someone did a mild port job to it. I didn't buy the engine due to the cylinder wall condition, wasn't looking for another big project engine at this time.
Glad it did not get parted out.
