Unless you have a turbo or some other significant power-enhancer, the 2.5L NA 944's will perform best with 15" wheels. And the lighter, the better (like Fuchs). I've spoken with too many 944NA owners who've found out too late that the larger wheels are only good for looks.

I'm gonna say the cups. I'm honestly NOT a fan of them, but I'd take them over 15 inch anythings. Now if there were some 16 inch Fuchs, black with polished lip... Hands down. Fuch

On second thought... He has a valid point.

I recently put Cup II's on and didnt notice any significant difference in power. The wider tires really make the car look great....and I did notice a difference in handling. 17" inch is the way to go...

Fuchs are an awesome set up for an early car.

That's what I'm gonna put on my 951 once the 968 is sold.

Edit:
I see you have a late offset car. Fuchs will not fit properly.

For your N/A I suggest fuchs 7.5x16 front 8x16 rear or 7.5 all around, that what I had on my 944/na for 25 years and found it was a very good combo for everyday & spirit driving ,but don't forget car handling & ride involve having the rigth wheels-tires-shocks &springs on mine tires sizes were (205-55-front) (225-50 rear )the car was lowered 1 1/2" front & 3/4" rear, lowering the car was acheive by cutting half a coil from the front springs had no effects on comfort either and had very good handling.By going with 16" you will also have a greater choice when it come to tires .Good luck finding the rigth WHEELS.

Depends on your priorities. For pure looks, the 17"s are going to look nicer. For performance, the 15"s are better. 15"s give you cheaper tire options so that's another consideration.

You do have another choice.I have an 87 and bought a set of Jeff Alton Fuchs in 17 inch with the correct late offset for the 944. 8's in the front and 9's in the rear.Polished lip with black centers.
I don't think weight will be an issue with these forged wheels as I think they weigh about 16 lbs.Not much different than the original smaller Fuchs.
I bought them through Richey Racing or you can search "Jeff Alton" on Pelican and take a look for youself and see if you like them.Mine should be shipping this week and I will post pics when I get them mounted.

i don't by the myth.... as long as you ahve the same overall rolling radius and same approximate weight 17s and 15s will make no difference to acceleration and "power"
that said the 17s will give you much less sidewall flex and allow you for a more high performance tire fitment. this will make for a stiffer ride and you will feel potholes more.
As stated tires will be cheaper for the 15s.

Ps I have 16 inch Fuchs, 16 inch BBS and 17 inch cups on my 911, the cups with the bridestone RE 050pole positions give the best turn in and high speed confidence.

These are the wrong offset for an 87.
