Default How do I prep for bigger rims ?

I have a good question for you guys. What all should I do with the car to prepare for larger wheels & tires ? Next spring I will be buying a set of 17" Cup II Wheels for my 944

I already have Koni struts and shocks and I plan on rebuilding the ball joints, but everything else is stock.

You need bigger tires for the bigger rims... maybe those snazzy LED valve stem caps. That's about it.

968 Caster Blocks for the a-arms. Even if the factory didn't already recommend it for 17" and larger wheels, its still a good idea.

Why just rims? You can buy the entire wheel already together

If you have a 944 NA, you will need more HP if you go with bigger rims and tires. I have tried all different combinations on my 1988 944 from the stock 15x7 Phone Dials to 16x7 and 16x8 turbo PD's, 17x7 and 17x9 Cup, 18x8 and 18x10 turbo twist, then back to 15x7 early offset PD's and my handling and acceleration is the best with this combo.

You might also consider upgrading your front brake pad to Hawk HP Plus as you will need a more agressive pad for stopping with those heavier wheels/tires.

I like the 15in Fuchs and 225/50R15 tires on my 86, it just drives and accelerates so well with that combo. I have tried 944's with 16 & 17in wheels and none of them handle as well or have as much "zip", they just seem slower to accelerate, all except the S2's that is.

You will definitely feel that the car is slower with 17in, but no prep required, just get a good alignment afterward.

I'm glad I'm not the only person who's sick of the incorrect use of the term, "rim".

You can fit the 15x7 Fuchs on a late car as well as Cookie Cutter wheels in the size 15x7 as long as the offset is 23.3mm and you have at least negative 1.5 degrees of camber with 225/50/15 tires, otherwise you can use a 205/50/15 on the 15x7 rim and it should clear without any fender issues. For the money, the Cookie cutters are the way to go since you can pick up a nice set for around $300. The Fuchs are definitely more and most come 15x7 and 15x8 which you can not use the 15x8 no matter what as it sticks out way too far.

But big rims go so well with big breaks. Not to mention European bumbers.

The car would look awesome with early offset 16x7 fuchs and 205/50/16 tires

It would also handle awesome and accelerate better than stock

but if you can't find 4 16x7 fuchs you'll be able to fine 4 15x7 fuchs

in that case run 205/50/15 tires
