Default Late offset on early car question

I currently have some BBS wheels on my car in 15x7 and 15x8. Not sure of the offset (never bothered to look) but the 7s on the front pretty much come out to the fender with barely a little room to go.

I'm wondering if anyone has put an 8" wheel with late offset on an early car. I figure that should fit and come right out to the fender, but I'm not sure if it will rub the wheel well on hard turns. Obviously tire height would be taken into consideration but I'm concerned about width.

The early 944's from 1983 to 1985.5 use an offset of 23.3mm for their 15x7 wheels and the 1986 to 1989 944's use a 52.3mm offset. If you put a late offset onto an early model 944, it would look really funny as the wheels will really be too far inside the fenders. If you put the early offset wheels onto a late model car, it will fit but the tires might be slightly outside the fenders unless you have a decent amount of negative camber of around 1.5 to 2 degrees and then the wheels and tires will look perfect.

I am not sure what the offsets are for the BBS wheels if they come in staggered sizes but you will need to look behind the wheel for that info. I know for a fact that you can not put 15x7 and 15x8 early Fuchs onto a late 944 because the 15x8's will be sticking out past the fenders no matter what.

I have put some early Phone Dial wheels size 16x7 and 16x8 with 205/55/16 and 225/50/16 tires on my late model 944 and they fit perfectly because I have -2 degrees negative camber for track use.

Spencer, I have done the late offset swap on my '83 - the entire rear end from an '87 S, to be exact.

The wheels currently mounted are an 8" wide 928 "sewerlids". The Late offset parts fit perfectly and the wheels look amazing. They line up perfectly with the fender.

Note: You'll see how these pictures reflect the early offset still installed on the front.

Here are some pictures of the rear after I finished bolting it up:

You have it backwards, it will look really bad unless you run a big spacer.

Was Spencer asking about spacers? Just do the swap and be done with it. You'll avoid huge spacers and really long studs.

He asked if you could put late offset wheels on an early car. Not about swapping suspensions.

oohh i had a brainfart and forgot that a wider wheel will have different spacing than a narrower wheel with the same offset.

Ah, I thought he was asking for the correct way to do it. My fault.

Yeah but the offsets are what makes the difference and makes it look bad. The late cars have a higher offset than the early cars. So they sit in the fender more. A wider wheel with the same offset would fill the fenders more.
