where is the power steering fluid drain plug?

Post where is the power steering fluid drain plug?

i plan on changing out the power steering fluid this weekend and don't know where this plug is. also, any tips on changing the fluid? can i use the good old ATF fluid or is there something more technologically advanced that i should use?

Well, seeing as how I just did a whole power steering pump replacement myself, (BIG props out to marksports for the pump!!!) I can tell you, THERE IS NO DRAIN PLUG!!

You put a big *** pan beneath the pump, and then you spray a ****load of WD40 or some other magic delocking spray on the big bolt connecting the ATF fluid line to the lowest part of the PS Pump, and you give it your damnedest to get it undone, and let it all drain into the pan.

If anyone knows an easier way, WHY THE HELL DIDN'T YOU TELL ME!!!!

BTW, I believe the correct fluid is GM Dextron III. I hope so anyways, because that's what I've been using!!!

Any Dextron II or III will do - even synthetic ATF's... same risk applies as with engines.

Rich, unfortunately you do have the right answer. What a pain, eh! Letting the line gravity release will drain most of the system, but some steering action will aid the process and clean the rack out pretty well.

Don't forget the filter in the reservoir - if you're at the preventative stage, this may be a good time to replace the filter/reservoir.

I've done it only twice and I don't consider it a PITA, only messy.

What I do is undo the hose clamp from the container mounting braket and just pour the fluid out into a container. No mess.

Does anyone know anything about replacing the PS pump mount? Mine is broken and I can get it welded, but would much rather replace it.

best way to service the power steering in these cars???

Delete it and never look back. If you really want to do it right, convert to a manual rack but a depowered rack is great also and saves lots of $$$.

holy resurrected thread batman. twelve years ago when dumb phones were attached to wires, computers were under the desk, now we have smart phones that do it all, and still nobody found a better way.

This tread makes me laugh!!! Nope... there is no drain plug for the P/S. But if one was so savy you could connect a "T" fitting on the low pressure side, when time to drain you could hook up a hose and direct it to a 1 gallon jug or something that will contain a blast of P/S fluid when you start the engine.😳Then plug the "T" back up! Never done it myself, but now after reading all these posts I think I might and see how it works.
