When you put that box in your car, you might think of pointing such that it's not visible to thieves through that honking, expensive piece of rear glass.

RMills: There was a thread running around here a while ago where someone pulled out the rear seats and stuck in two 10" or 12" suckers. Way over kill, but it looked very clean.

Just a reminder that <a href="http://www.klaindustries.net/" target="_blank">KLA Industries</a> sells an 8" enclosure that fits in the boot. Stealth and not having a box sitting in the rear hatch is a must for me, but I'm trying to figure out if I can do it myself...or get a job...

it's hard to see the speakers in the first pic, but there are two 12's and 2 6x9's in the rear. Those are 5 1/4's in the doors. The enclosures in the rear ae fyberglass and MDF and are molded to the shape of the side pockets. I have designed many different typs of sub boxes for different cars.(3 different typs for these cars) this setup is WAY louder than I had hoped for even with cheap subs. Another good thing about this setup is that you don't loose trunk space or your spare tire. Let me know if you want more detail.

I have been working on building a sub box in the spare tire well of my car. I have some pics my website, and need to take some more. I just have to cut some MDF for the top and seal it up.

I neeeed to post some pics...I've been working on this literally every day for months now....nearing the end...will need new project! Polishing the Fuchs on my early car is on the list!

see I kept the tire in there (because its a daily driver and I need that little tiny fake tire) so we have really devised a intresting setup to fit 2 12" subs in there

If you're banking on that spare tire, test out your inflator thing...I think it takes something like an hour when it works...

Is there a tutorial online somewhere that shows how to make an odd-shaped sub box from fiberglass? I'm pretty handy, I've got some fiberglass, and as a frickin' student working on unpaid (*Gasp*) internships, I've got more time than money.

And how do you enable automatic email notification?!

If you are talking about making it into the spare tire compartment, there was a post on here a while ago where someone just lined it in tin foil and made the shell in the car.

Found some tutorials:

<a href="http://www.thirdgen.org/newdesign/tech/subwoofer.html" target="_blank">http://www.thirdgen.org/newdesign/tech/subwoofer.html</a>

<a href="http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/7165/how_to_1.htm" target="_blank">http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/7165/how_to_1.htm</a>

I guess you just throw down aluminum foil, fiberglass a whole bunch of layers, and attach and MDF top...That seems tricky, though...What do you screw it to?

You could cut the MDF so it just slides into the box and screw it together, then throw some more fiber glass over it to seal everything up.
Good luck with it though.
Post how you made out. I have been contemplating this for a while now.

The fiber glass stuff is actually a lot easier than I thought it would be. I decided that I would build a sub box out of fiberglass and at the time I had never used it before, and knew pretty much nothing about it. It was very easy. I just used some cardboard and tin foil to make a shape that would work then put the fiberglass on. I would DEFINATLY reccomend wearing some gloves while you do this, it gets very nasty if you dont. I have a few pics of the building process on my website. I need to update it with the latest.
