Winter driving on just 2 rear snow tires?
I usually drive in the snow with 4 snow tires, but the front 2 are blown & not repairable. Can the 944 S2 still handle the snow with just 2 rear snow tires & 2 front summer (near full tread) tires. Or will it not stop & corner in the snow well enough?

To answer the original post - no. You'd be better off putting the summer tires on the rear. That way you wouldn't even move - therefore not putting yourself or anyone else in danger.
Seriously - proper winter tires on all four corners - or stay home.

Winters on all four corners... anything else is just plain dangerous
Think of it this way, what you are proposing is to provide drive traction, but no steering or braking traction....

who cares that u can't turn. u can't STOP with summer tires. it's not just about tread depth.
at around 40 degrees, the soft summer compound doesn't adhere to the dry pavement. even though there might not be any snow or ice on the ground, u will be driving on ice. and if there IS snow on the ground, u can just pretend your car is a newtonian object in a game of collision.

I've never driven my 944 in the snow, but I keep hearing from others in the snow belt (like me) that they're wonderfully balanced and capable.
I've tried the rear-only snow tire thing (with all-seasons on the front) in a pickup truck, and it was an unending series of near-disasters to go anywhere!

Put both snow tires on one side, then you have the go and turning traction, but half as much as you would usually. So half everything else you would normally do as well.

Preferred brand is Nokian (Hakkapeliitta). Drop me a note if you would like info.
