SS won't do it; the idea is the washer seals by conforming to the surfaces. SS is hard as rock and won't conform. Even new copper washers benefit from heating to about 400 deg. and letting cool, to anneal them. It makes them nice and soft. New pumps should come with a new check valve and a new set of washers.

Thanks Ross.

So, are you saying I should torch my new washers and get them red hot then let them cool before installing? I can do that...

Lindsey needs to get their quality control in check. They sent me a pump with NO washers (which I'll be sending back...)...my last order from them was for polished hard pipes and they sent me regular finish and not enough clamps.

Hopefully Paragon gets it right and this is a non-issue.

So, why I am getting the feeling here that there is only ONE copper washer? I've checked a bunch of threads and can't find any picture that cooberates a second washer between the end cap nut and hose itself. This picture is a perfect example (granted, from a 928...but it's the same setup). I was SUPER careful pulling mine apart to make sure I didn't lose any parts when dissasembling and I only have a single copper washer.

This is the thread that came from. One poster mentions that the copper washer can only be used once unless you re-anneal it with a torch, which I'm going to do.

Well, both of my cars had a washer on each side on the old pumps, and both of the new pumps came with two washers. And your cap was stuck on because of buildup from leakage on the side with no washer.... Banjos are made to be sealed on both sides. Look at one on a brake system.

yeah, I finally found a place in town that might have the right size copper washers so I'll go pick a few up and use them on both sides...better safe than sorry...it's possible that no washer there is what caused the massive corrosion or whatever it was that happened to the check valve (see pic in previous post).

If you still can't find one, check with a brake shop or a motorcycle shop.
